Feminism with a variety of forms as can accommodate each individual. To feel safe in a support group is imperative for one to understand there will be no judgement and a place one can say thoughts without the monster or patriarchy ready to strike. The question is not are support groups effective, we as a society know that in fact they are extremely effective but how can we take the idea of a support group to reach out to empower women? Through empowerment how can we as feminists work to better address the needs of all individuals?
As a student, practice is crucial to learn group therapy techniques. In order to achieve these practices, I attended 2 support groups of the same topic. Observation and attendance constructs an idea of how group therapy works. Attending this group was important because of the profoundness of its meaning and experiences I have witnessed.
While volunteering and advocating for social justice are things that have always been important to me, I would like to become more involved in community movements and advocacy groups that promote gender equity. The article, “Why gender matters in activism: feminism and social justice movements”, by Bhattacharjya et al. (2013), emphasized the importance of community and mutual involvement in working towards gender parity within social movements, concluding that such equality is best achieved when supported by a whole, resulting in unification between males and females in the decision-making
Group counseling is a viable new option emerging in the school setting. It can be effective and cost-effective for the schooling system by addressing a larger number of students and can be used to address a multitude of topics that children often face. One benefit of group counseling in the school setting is that it teaches children important socializing skills with their peers, as students often learn best from each other (Pérusse, 2009). It provides support, assists with emotional and problem-solving skills, and empowers children to be help each other as well as receive help from their peers (Thompson, 2012). The group setting may be perceived as less threatening, it helps bridge the gap in trust for children by providing a safe environment in which children can connect with others, and it allows for interactions that builds on social skills and the development of empathy for others (Thompson, 2012).

I attended a support group at 204 S Beverly Drive 116 Beverly Hills, CA 90212. The support group takes place every Tuesday from 6PM-8PM. If a team member cannot make it on Tuesday they can also attend on Saturday from 9AM-11AM. I attended a domestic violence class. The counselor name is Dr. Gordon, his License Marriage and Family Therapist. This proposal, submitted to the Domestic Violence Support Western Sydney Service, is to advocate for the inclusion of a support group focused on male victims of domestic violence in the services that are currently provided by the DVSWSS. With all due respect to the amazing support and services the DVSWSS provide to female victims, this proposal would be targeted specifically at the creation of a support group for male victims as there is a need for such services as is shown below. This proposal will aim to provide a mean for the DVSWSS to continue to be a leader in the support of domestic violence victims by providing services to all victims in need.

Feminism is a movement that seek to achieve equality and social rights for women in all key areas which includes education, personal, economic, employment, and cultural sphere of human endeavors. Activists of the feminist movements have used social and political theories to campaign for women’s rights and freedom where sexuality and gender-based political thinking have created imbalances for the women in society. The feminist movements have also campaigned for the protection of girls and women from sexual harassment, rape and violence within the home.
Robert K Merton came up with “Strain Theory” in which he argued that although Deviance can be beneficial to a society- keeping the society in order, it could also promote inequality. In our society it’s more proper for a woman to be modest about her body, the moment she defies that norm she is considered Deviant. In order to encourage a decline of inequality groups will need the help in order to reach that goal. There are many organizations that help groups that experience oppression, HIPS is an organization that helps women in sex work to be more accepted into society as human.
I attended the “11th Step” meeting at the Newman Congregational Church. The 11th Step uses meditation as a form of recovery. This was an open Alcoholics Anonymous meeting that takes place every Tuesday night. It was very difficult to find a meeting that was convenient for my schedule. They frequently took place at night when I had class, or on weekend mornings when I had to work. I originally sought help from a previous professor in finding a support group, however, Courtney and I ended up finding this particular one on our own through searching the internet. Although it was difficult for me to find a group that was convenient, I believe this particular time is the most accessible to those who had attended this meeting. The experience was overall very positive even though I was hesitant to attend at first, I did not realize how influential AA was to a recovering alcoholic before attending this meeting.
According to Toseland and Rivas (2005), group dynamics are “the forces that result from the interactions of group members” (p. 64). These forces refer to either the negative or positive influences towards meeting members’ socioemotional needs as well as goal attainment within a group (Toseland & Rivas, 2005), like within my class work group experience. Some of dynamics that continue to emerge and develop in my group is the effective interaction patterns and strong group cohesion, which has generated positive outcomes and group achievement thus far.
Even with individual feminist organizations, the organizations work together as well to spread their activism. Multiracial feminism recognizes the need for coalition politics. The autonomous women of color feminist organizations share similar goals, and they realize there is strength in numbers. While creating autonomous groups allows Blacks, Latinas, Native American, and Asian women to focus solely on the oppressions they individually face, they are aware that they share problems with racism, sexism, and classism. Most minority groups are targeted by the government and live in low-income households.
