The animals of Manor Farm have grown tired of their slavish work, so, acting on the word of a recently deceased pig named Old Major, they overthrow their master, Farmer Jones. The next day, two pigs named Snowball and Napoleon rename the farm to “Animal Farm” and establish a set of commandments, recording them on a barn wall. The animals then begin to work in the fields to prove that they don’t need Farmer Jones. They are very successful in this endeavor. The two new leaders of Animal Farm, Snowball and Napoleon begin to regularly debate each other on the various issues the farm faces.
