Amongst all the sources within the packet, the main focus of each discuss the work force and different components that are linked to working. Specifically, my question brings up the components of the wage gap that females deal with and how it can change the quality of work they put into the workforce. Both are mentioned and touched upon in the source Wealth of Nations and the Propaganda Posters. The Wealth of Nations source argues that jobs that require more effort and jobs that have disagreeable employment earn more because of hardships, trust we have in the workman, and the probability of success in them. Not only did this poster make a statement for women across the globe, but other “poster[s] and film images glorified and glamorized the roles of working women and suggested that a woman’s femininity need not be sacrificed” (We Can Do It! Rosie the Riveter - World Digital Library). Soon enough, after the original posters disappearance, Rosie was rediscovered in the early 1980’s and became an iconic staple for promoting feminism. She would often appear on new recurring posters that managed to influence the breaking of several stereotypes across the nation and implement the common knowledge that women can do everything and anything a man can do. Yet men still have the continuous mindset of degrading women, meaning they see themselves as the most powerful gender. “It may come down to this troubling reality, new research suggests: Work done by women simply is not valued as highly” (Miller). The study done by Cornell University, as stated by Claire Cain Miller, suggests that once women take on an occupation, it instantly is looked down upon and implied as a job that does not take a lot of skill. Not only does it cause bad quality of work, but it can also minimize the chance of women advancing to a higher career path or occupation. Since women are now aware everlasting wage gap, they assume that nothing can be done in order to make as much as a man's dollar. Conscious of the distinction in work ethic that women bring to their jobs, the wage gap must be put to an end. In order to change what is the 20% difference in pay between both genders, women must acknowledge that they have to put their best foot forward. If women planned to avoid producing the highest quality of work, the outcome would lead to the theory that women cannot take on as much work as men. Besides ending the unbelieveable wage gap, the connection between effort and compensation will be broken. If men and women are both on the same playing field, the employers with the most expertise, talent, and enthusiasm for said job will be presented with a raise, possibly even a promotion! Since money is not the only thing that has an impact on the quality of work produced, it is important to appreciate and show gratitude towards all employers.
