The term project management was initially developed during the 1950s and 1960s. Today, the term can be defined as, “the application of the knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques necessary to successfully complete a project” (Boyer, Verma). Project management can be divided up into five main categories; initiation, planning, execution, control, and closure. The person who is in charge of the project is referred to as the project manager. There are also many different techniques and tools that project managers use to perform their job. Even though there is a lot of time and research that goes into project, not all projects are successful. Project management is divided up into five main categories; initiation, planning, execution, control, and closure. The first stage is initiation, during this stage, the problem or the opportunity is identified. Next the solution is identified and a project team is created. This stage includes setting the project scope, timeline, budget, and selecting a project manager.
