Professionalism
According to Merriam’s Webster Dictionary, the meaning of professionalism is the skill, good judgment, and polite behavior that is expected from a person who is trained to do a job well. I agree with this definition. All these traits are extremely vital in any workplace since it will display one’s professional maturity and one’s ability. Also, I greatly believe that giving a positive attitude towards anything shows dedication in your job which is a great example of professionalism. All in all, I make sure to focus on demonstrating excellence no matter where I am especially in my work area.

Each of us are destined to be something great, it is all up to ourselves if we want to achieve a successful life. I myself, want to make sure that my family is happy and well taken care of. In order for me to make sure of this, I will choose a career that I will passionately love and have great benefits for myself and my family. I have done quite a load of research on being a Clinical Laboratory Technician. It is vital that I have dedication, time and great effort in order for me to be successful in this kind of occupation. This occupation has a ton of requirements needed. An entry-level job for technologists usually requires a bachelor's degree in medical technology or life sciences. This degree requires a lot of courses in chemistry, biology, microbiology, math, and statistics. Coursework emphasizes on laboratory skills, including safety procedures and lab management. Everything in the beginning will be a challenge, but who does not love a good challenge. I always had a passion for this occupation. I intend to do well and I will make sure that I will be successful in this area. I plan on having a family in the future and this occupation is flexible on hours which I will surely need. In this scenario, Margaret is a newly hired medical assistant for this very busy medical practice. Margaret had good intentions with wanting to leave a good impression. However, she should have thought more about patient care and her ability to perform a procedure on her own. Fortunately, even though the office seemed to need the extra help. Professionalism is defined as one's conduct at work. The quality of professionalism is not restricted to those in occupations with high level of education or high earnings. Any worker regardless of their level of education or occupation should demonstrate a high level of this trait (About.com, 2013). Acting professionally at workplace makes others think of you as reliable, respectful, and competent.
In a highly respected profession such as nursing, professionalism is an important element to staying employed and setting one’s self apart from the rest of the applicants when competing for a potential job. By definition professionalism are the qualities and traits that describe a professional. While knowledge is crucial in any profession, according to an article published by the University of Kansas (2012), “all medical professionals must strive to retain those humanistic qualities integrity, respect, and compassion that constitute the essence of professionalism.” Whether you work in a hospital or administration these three qualities encompass the core of nursing and exemplify what it means to be a professional.

In current healthcare settings, team work is a vitality that ensures quality care for patients. A team is a group of people comprising two or more individuals who works mutually together towards a shared goal (Ryan, 2017). Teamwork involves collaboration towards common goals between two or more individuals with varied job scopes (Fernandez et al., 2008). Cooperation and acceptance within teams help prevent dangers and promote well-being of patients too (Green et al., 2017). These factors are highly valued, as they promote holistic care rendered to patients. Additionally, professionalism can also be portrayed through abiding the regulatory framework and requirements for healthcare professionals (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, 2017). Professionalism includes self-governing practices in the scope of the profession and in continuing professional development (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, 2017). To advocate for professionalism, the code of conduct was created by Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC). It is a set of conduct and attitude expected of enlisted healthcare professionals to act to the greatest advantage of patients, the general population and moral principles of the standards amongst the various healthcare

Professionalism is defined as the accrued knowledge and behavior possessed by individuals in order to obtain successful goals and attributes for their organization, facility or work environment (McDonagh, 2008). Being professional while at work let others know that you are reliable, respectful, and competent at what you do. Professionalism in a medical office is very important, it means putting patient needs as top priority. Professionalism in a medical office is taking responsibility of your patients, committing to patient confidentiality, and having patient-centered care for the patients.
After pondering over the specific meaning behind professional identity and how I should answer this question, I realized that my professional identity is how I perceive myself within my occupational context. I was also going to mention some exact words that described me, however, I believe that a professional identity is not permanent. It is a concept that continues developing throughout our lives. I would like to refer to my professional identity as a process that is constantly influenced by my professors and their teaching style, by my interactions with my peers, and by the way I communicate with others. One of the things that I think is really important to me as a counselor in training, which I learned in my Master’s program, is the ability to empathize with people who come with a problem. I think empathy is a key element in the helping profession, and I enjoy learning how to do it the best possible way. Another factor that is very important to me is providing a sense of autonomy to clients and create an environment for them to feel safe to express what they are going through in life.
To name a few examples of professionalism in the workplace - is being on time, limiting absences, can communicate effectively, dress in suitable clothes, and shows a willingness to work with others. Having a positive attitude in stressful setting is another great example. Professionalism will show in your actions and people around you will notice it. Once people notices your display of professionalism, you will gain respect and trust in your workplace. However, if you dig deeper, all the examples of professionalism mentioned above, it all boils down into one reason- attitude. It is an attitude to show up at work early, and not miss work. It is an attitude that you can communicate effectively. It is an attitude that you can willingly work with others. It is an attitude that you can stay positive despite being in a stressful environment. So, make it simpler, professionalism in the workplace relies solely on one’s
