The high pay of professional entertainers and athletes is very controversial. Professional entertainers and athletes are not overpaid for many reasons. The large salaries they receive are a direct reflection of their hard work, dedication and ability to perfect their craft. The vast amounts of money come from the people that pay to watch them play a game, sing at a concert, or act in a movie. Non-entertainment careers have salaries set by the government or supply and demand, not based upon the value of the people who choose to spectate. While attending sports and entertainment events, people also buy concessions and merchandise. Professional athletes and entertainers put a lot of hard work and effort into a good performance for their viewers. This hard work can sometimes lead to painful injuries that need medical attention. Professional athletes get paid various amounts of money depending on the sport and experience. Professional entertainers sometimes do simple minded things that shock society. Merchandise, such as jerseys, shirts, and other items, can be very expensive and make a great deal of money for players and teams. Die hard sports and musical fans will usually spend large sums of money to get good seats to a game featuring their favorite team or singer. Entertainment is a huge business and the money made comes mainly from ticket and merchandise sales. Other jobs, such as a teacher, nurse, or a soldier, are paid for by the government.
