In Narrative descriptive essay, students were supposed to write about the most important place, which they get inspired of and tell the story related to that place. We needed to make audience to feel, sense and smell of that place by giving them vivid descriptions in detail. I wrote about Mediterranean Sea, In Pakistan that I consider my most favorite place over all. I gave the sense to audience that how does it feel to be over there and how I met my best friend in such a beautiful place. In Critical review essay, Students were supposed to choose 1 reading topic from the book or the one that discussed in class and evaluate it by making an argument even if we are against the author’s statement about the topic. The major assignments help me to improve my writing skills in many ways. In class-work, Pre-Writing, Drafts, Peer reviews, Self-reviews, Revision has a great impact on overall improvement. These strategies not even make me strong writer but a strong reader as well when I gave feedback on my class mates’ essay, it also gives me an idea to interpret someone’s views in my perspective. 2. My progress from one major assignment to the next, demonstrate my writing skills as I write different type of essay at different position. For example, my first essay assignment was Process Analysis essay where I was supposed to write a paper about how to make fried rice with step by step process My second essay, the Media Analysis essay was not enough informative as compared to Process Analysis essay. I had errors like, transition words, repetitive sentences and my thesis statement wasn’t cleared enough. Those mistakes help me to do good on next essay. 3. I feel confident about my writing skills as a writer. I have improved a lot as I did different types of essay throughout the semester because every time I needed to change a position as a writer. Sometimes I had to make an argument against the author’s argument, elaborate someone’s idea into my perspective, and according to audience, I had to convince audience by giving some facts, which they can rely
After reading our mentors notes and analyzing what we have learned through this term, I have read all assignments that were submitted before our midterm exam. This gave me chance to follow up with how I advanced my writing skills from the beginning. As it was interesting to see how I can point out the missing qualities of these essays, it was nice to see our mentor’s notes justifying my points.
Writing essays was never my forte, it just never came easy to me like it would to others. Since other subjects came easy to me and I had to focus more than others on writing, I had a negative attitude toward the process as a whole. During this summer semester, I was able to grow as a writer, and gain a more positive attitude toward how I write and a better feel for writing in college. Writing a paper is a process in which there are many different stages. In high school I would never write outlines or any sort of pre planning work. Other struggles I encountered in my writing were my theses, and framing quotes.
When demonstrating my growth as a writer across several pieces, there are four main learning outcomes in which I have focused on. These include writing, reading, researching and reflecting. Within these learning outcomes, there are many different conventions and ways to understand my various projects and assignments as a writer. Throughout the English 1020 class, I have been able to observe not only my previous strengths, but myself growing as a writer by improving my ability to find strong sources as well as properly citing and explaining them, forming a more logical paragraph structure, and many more conventions when writing an assignment.
Narrative Essay- is a piece of writing in form of a story which recreates a personal experience. It needs to involve the reader (interesting), have the sequence of time and space (actual times and actual places), present changes, contrasts, conflicts, or tensions, include detailed observations about people, places, or events (sights, sounds, smells, tastes, feelings, etc.), be told from our point of view, be focused on connecting the past event, people, or place with how relevant would it be today or in the future, and allow readers to make an assumption of why we still have memory of this experience (Desoto,
I am always a little nervous and hesitant when I begin writing an essay. Ever since I was little I was an honor roll student, passed all my tests, was placed in honors and AP classes, and eventually graduated a year early from high school. I used to be so confident when I would begin writing a paper, I could finish it within a couple minutes. During junior year of high school, I began taking duel credit classes. I was passing all the classes so far until I reached English 111. It was an 8-week course and I started to get overwhelmed. All throughout the course I was having a little bit of trouble on the essays. I would still receive a passing grade, but it wasn’t an A. I began becoming a little discouraged and didn’t understand what was going
Initial Reflective Essay When I first thought of what I wanted to do with my life after college, the first thing I thought of was helping people. The next step in deciding what I wanted to do with my life was to examine how I could accomplish this goal. I started pondering and I was thinking about how much I love to take care of my body. Health care and personal hygiene has always been an important factor in my life. So I decided to major in Health Sciences.
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
this area but I’m going to improve on it. The process of using multiple drafts has
In contrary, my previous essay writing focused on the general idea rather than details. Also, my thesis statement covered particular idea which I tend to write the chaotic article which is not enticing the reader or audience. However, the improvement that I have applied for my second essay "The challenge of the freshman student," the first rough draft focus how the freshman student handles their personal problems, and many of these problems also run into deeper issues if they are not dealt with adequately. Therefore, the significate difficulties with this particular thesis were too general not specific details for a single argument point. However, the first draft narrative argument essay, I genuinely focus on the first year students experience features. They face many challenges as they make the transition to their new lives on campus. I managed to narrow my essay topic in the final stage to specifically why the student gets homesick and struggling to develop habits, acclimating to academic expectations, etc..., and it helps me to provide more supporting details. Hence, it makes my topic captures ( grabs) the reader
Moreover in the specific essay it is going to be a critical evaluation

Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.
