How to Make a Cinder Cake My grandmother always used to make Cinder Cake every year for the holidays, and it was something my family would always look forward to. When I left home I asked my grandmother for her recipe so that I could share it with my new friends while I was so far away from home. It is a very simple recipe with easy to follow instructions. First, the ingredients that you will need are: 1 bag (1lb) of Oreos, half a gallon of vanilla ice cream, 1 container (8 oz.) of cool whip, chocolate syrup, and 1 stick of butter. You can change the flavors of the Oreos, ice cream, cool whip, and chocolate syrup if you desire. Also, you will need the following equipment: 1 large plastic bag, 2 small bowls, rolling pin, large spoon, aluminum foil, and a 13 by 9 pan. Some of this equipment can be changed as well. I didn’t have a rolling pin when I lived in the dorms and would use my boot or whatever I could find to smash the Oreos, while they were in the plastic bag of course, and now I use a potato smasher and smash the Oreos while they are in the 13 by 9 pan. The ice cream needs to be softened, you can either let it set out for a few hours or cook it in the microwave for a few minutes. Once your ice cream is nice and soft spread it evenly over your crust using a large spoon. To help smooth out the ice cream better you can run the spoon under warm water. I have seen people use their hands/fingers to spread the ice cream, this is fine, but you could risk the chance of getting frost bit so be sure to run your hands under warm water ever so often to prevent this.
