The decision to separate the twins came from the adoption agency who wanted to conduct a nature versus nurture experiment; however, the experiment was conducted in secret. However, for unknown reasons, the experiment never developed to fruition. Unaware the child they adopted was a twin; both sets of parents raised a singular child. With the application of the birthday paradox, also known as the birthday problem, these “chances” can be approximated.
The Birthday Paradox theory was discovered to hold to it’s truth 66.7% of the time, meaning that this theory is based off of some presence of logic and is most likely bound to occur. In the poem 'The Last Day of the Year,'; Annette Von Droste-Hülshoff uses imagery and references to God to express the coming of the end of the year. The poem, however, seems to reflect the impending freedom of women from a patriarchal society. This poem's imagery and outside references suggest that it is in fact a plea for the end of the suffering of women, and that the coming of their empowerment is near.
