There is no doubt that in today’s society the need of private security is important. For many years, it has been a major part of everyday life that even goes back to the ancient times. Through the years, many private businesses have used it as a means to protect life and property as private security is essential. Private security employees can be also responsible for protecting many of America’s institution, critical infrastructure, utilities, transportation and health facilities (Strom et al., 2010). Cooperation takes much type of forms. Unfortunately, there have been finding that suggest that a small amount of law enforcement agencies participate in a formal collaborations with private security. Only 5 to 10 percent of police chiefs and sheriffs were in an active partnership with private security. Emergency response training has a tendency to include police, fire, and other governmental authorities, however, often tends to leave private security. Thankfully, in the recent years, law enforcement agencies and private security agencies have shown attention in collaborating with each other, information sharing, and partnership (Strom et al., 2010). Since it has been shown that private security are important in society, the training that law enforcement possess along with the size, resource, and the technical expertise that private security have can create a good relationship for future emergency response efforts (Strom et al., 2010). Now, there are than 450 established private security and law enforcement partnerships. Private security agencies have also been given some police power in order to assisting law enforcement with certain function that often helps improve services in particular areas (Strom et al., 2010). The common goals of private security and law enforcement have caused some local law enforcement agency to privatize certain functions. Doing so can allow law enforcement agencies to free sworn members and place them o the street thus, helping decrease crime at a lower
Measuring the impact of the increased police presence was primarily based on the calls for service the police received from residents in two geographic areas. The two areas were the residential zone which was saturated with police and a comparison area that is also residential and close to the first area but did not experience an increase in police attention. To measure the effect in the study areas, all calls that were received by police one year prior to the incident until August 2008 were collected, and only those calls that dealt with crimes and d...
For instance, in the case that an assailant barges into an organization and launches an attack on the employees. The unarmed security guard will be unproductive, being, that he or she is unequipped with the proper equipment to impede such an attack. Moreover, an unarmed security doesn’t have the high level training, that a law enforcement officer or an individual with prior military background possess. That is to say, that such an individual only embodies a low degree of specialization or experience at best. Thus, leaving the organization exposed and vulnerable to such a horrific act of violence without an adequate contingency plan in place. Therefore, it is highly recommended that an organization acquires the services of an armed security agency. Now, we will scrutinize the last topic of this case assignment dealing with a ban imposed on
After reading the provided summary, I believe that policing should be opened up to the private security model. There are more advancements and a lot more resources, including money, available to them. I think only positive things could come from applying the private security model to police work. However, officers should still have strict requirements and training like in public policing. The main concern should always be the public’s well-being and that could be done more effectively with more resources offered by the private security

In my opinion, if we can get smaller, local law enforcement agencies on board with everything that’s happening in bigger cities, we might actually have a really good chance at preventing an event like 9/11 from ever occurring again. Works Cited Serrao, S., & Peet, D. (2011, November 30). How 9/11 Has Changed Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysis.
Since September 11, 2001, the role of law enforcement officers around the country has evolved into something new and complex. Policing has always been amorphous, but both new officers and veterans must now learn how to incorporate counterterrorism measures into the traditional police role; “in addition to their traditional responsibilities, police are expected to serve as the ‘eyes and ears’ of federal agencies” (Pelfrey 2014). Furthermore, they must do so with limited funds and resources. Local law enforcement agencies are in a unique position that federal agencies are not: they are deeply embedded in communities. As such, they can use the information they have about their particular community to detect and divert potential terrorist behavior. According to Jose Docobo, “the community policing model serves as a solid framework for the development of an effective prevention strategy for homeland security by local law enforcement
Security is the safety net that which most humans depend upon politically, financially, and socially. It is believed that minimal risks
Law enforcement uses several methods to solve all types of crimes. Having a variety of ways to help solve an investigation gives officials an advantage. If one method fails or isn’t helpful, there are several others they can rely on. For instance, if there are no physical witnesses to a crime, the criminal may have left a fingerprint at the crime scene. An individual’s fingerprint is unique, “no two persons have exactly the same arrangement of ridge patterns” (“Fingerprint ID”). Fingerprints of criminals and of civilians are collected and stored. Also, “People who apply for government jobs, jobs that handle confidential information, banking jobs, teaching jobs, law enforcement jobs, and any job that involves security issues can be fingerprinted” (“The First ID”). Fingerprints are processed within hours and minutes through the Integrated Automated Fingerprint ID System. This system was developed in 1991, and made it easier for different law enforcement agencies to store and share fingerprints.
In Florida, every law enforcement official uses the tools of planning, management, and evaluation. For example, a patrol officer plans how to cover a beat, makes rounds or manage activities, and evaluates how they did at the end of the day. An officer plans what to do and how to do it before taking action. Unfortunately, this same approach is not consistently applied in police agencies and security operations as a whole. In fact, although a certain degree of planning is usually conducted by all prevention organizations, the major emphasis has traditionally been on the management and evaluation of an officers work; every sergeant knows to manage a police force in such a way that the commander will conclude that they are doing a good job. The major purpose of the discussion that follows is to provide crime prevention personnel information about planning, management, and evaluation so they can take advantage of those tools in performing their jobs.
A critical examination of police departments across the United States would show that while law enforcement agencies do common work, few agencies utilize the identical same strategy to tackle crime and disorder problems within their communities. Many agencies still deploy a traditional response model to address routine and emergency calls for service. The response model places a high emphasis on fast response times to calls for service and effective investigations which result in arrest and prosecution. However, more and more agencies are implementing variations of new strategies to deal with crime and disorder issues within their jurisdictions. Some of these newer strategies include community-policing, hot-spot policing and
In most cases, law enforcement involves investigation of all forms of suspected, potential or actual criminal activities and presenting evidence arising from investigation to the courts for determination of criminal culpability and subsequent punishment. Law enforcement is also concerned with detaining criminal suspects pending further investigation or judicial action. These, however, are not the only responsibilities or functions of law enforcement. Law enforcement is also concerned with deterrence and prevention of crime as well as enforcement of all the orders given by the law courts such as writs or warrants. In addition, law enforcement play an important role in ensuring public safety, maintaining public order, operating c...
Such partners include “federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies, fusion center partnership, public sector, private sector, and their respective communities” (BJA, 2009). Maintaining such relationships can be a difficult task because of jurisdictional attitudes amongst the different agencies, however such practices should be limited. Different agencies can share intelligence with each other and it can result in a reduction in redundancies. Usually, local law enforcement agencies feed any intelligence they may have to fusion centers or via various technological platforms. The problem seems to arise when federal authorities must share information with the local, state of tribal law enforcement agencies.
