1. History vs. Prehistory a. What is prehistory and how is this concept or term defined? Look into its various definition, either from books or reputable online sources in answering this question. Prehistory is the history before written record. It is the period before history was first recorded in writing. It is the study of prehistoric period using archaeological facts. Different kinds of stories and myths conceded orally from one age group to another. The nature and procedures of prehistory can be partially reconstructed through archaeology, which examines the material evidence left behind by the people of the past. Until modern times, history was regarded primarily as a special kind of literature that shared many techniques and effects with fictional narrative. Historians were committed to factual materials and personal truthfulness, but like writers of fiction they wrote detailed narratives of events and vivid character sketches with great attention to language and style. OPINION SECTION – At present, how good are we in knowing and understanding our country's history? What is lacking in the study of Philippine history and what should be done to improve our grasp of our own history? Who or what is/are at fault in the continuous failure of the Philippines in correcting many of the errors in the writing of its history? At present, we, Filipinos are not good enough in understanding our own history. At this modern generation, some of us are tend to idolize actors from different countries, resulted into obsession on the country of their favourite idols. For me, the Philippines lacks the essence in studying our own history and I think the only thing to do is to educate well our own history for the next generation. It is the government’s fault for the continuous failure of the Philippines in correcting many of the errors in the writing of our history because they did not criticize and examine well before publishing books.
