As a future medical laboratory scientist I understand that the medical field is a complex and unpredictable career. Studying medicine is a career that offers increased rewards based upon experience and ability. By completing the clinical internship, I am provided with a number of ways to greatly enhance my value and skills as a healthcare professional. Going under the wing of a medical facility, and gaining valuable work experience is the best way for me to flourish my professional skills. As an intern, having access to the most modern medical instruments and tools would also be an adequate way to develop and maintain professional skills significant to my profession. I believe that no knowledge gained in healthcare can outweigh hands-on experience.
For IV room, I learned the processing; know how to make IV, and IV calculation in my sterile dosage class. It's really helpful because I was able to apply the knowledge that I know in class and used it in hospital's setting. Also, when I worked with intern during weekend, he showed me patient's lab culture and urinalysis result. I notice bacteria that I learned in class and know what antibiotics to use for treatment. One of patient's profiles said that patient has BV and I know right away it stands as Bacterial Vaginosis. I'm so glad that I learned microbiology in the first year of pharmacy because not only I learned about different types of bacteria but I also learn the antibiotics. My specific goals for the final two weeks of the rotation are an opportunity to make IV and successful complete every single tasks by myself. Overall, I enjoy having my institutional IPPE rotation at MCH and I learned so much than I

I have had many experiences that have helped me an immense amount in shaping my choice of a career. Being a member of the New Visions Health and Medical Careers programs at Cayuga Medical Center allowed me to take my education into my own hands by escaping the classroom into the hospital for my senior year of high school. During my full-year medical internship, I shadowed over 30 medical disciplines, in both in-patient and outpatient facilities. Additionally, I clinically shadowed the care of patients from birth to the end of life of many different patients. This gave me a thorough understanding and a dense foundation of healthcare and allowed me to take initiation of my own

Out of all the specialties, Internal Medicine is the only one that requires me to be there for patients at the right-time. Not only being there at the right-time, but also using knowledge and applying it for patient’s health, which will give me a chance to interact with a diverse array of patients. This will enable me to use my medical knowledge and challenges me to evolve and grow as a physician. Prior to the three days we spent discussing clinical and experimental internships, I had only a vague idea of what internships entailed. I had only briefly spoken with second-year graduate students about their experiences. Thus, I found the psychology professional forum, internship panel, and Dr. Northington’s presentation to be quite helpful. Likewise, all three events provided different insights regarding internships. I had not yet given much consideration to the pros and cons of each internship sites, the experiences that would be the most valuable and lastly, how my internship choice would impact my career path. As a student on the clinical-track, I think that I would benefit the most from (1) an internship site that requires a moderate amount of report writing (2) an internship site where I can help facilitate group therapy and possibly sit in on individual

According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses. Related to the knowledge I have learned in the course I believe both strengths and weakness will have influence to my future career development. In this reflection paper, I will demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses that may place the most influence on my way of success.
