Political Corruption: A Tragedy of Honduras

"No science is immune to the infections of politics and the corruption of power". Many countries in the entire world have been plagued with this reality, one of them being Honduras. Honduras has been truncated from its prosperity for many years by its own demagogue government. Honduran Government falsely proclaims to support its citizens to gain power and be financially assisted. Its warp structured democratic and liberal leadership has only led to the present deceptive administration, poverty, and insecurity.

Due to the lack of money, this generates an underworld where certain gangs take the power to create fear in the communities. Like the Mara Salvatrucha as many others that benefit from the weakness of the government to create anarchy. Anarchy has been the main factor in many cases of death discussed in the news. Like the death of an activist called Berta Carceres, written in the New York Times. Berta was a longtime campaigner against illegal logging operations (hydroelectric project), who was threatened multiple times. Sadly, she was recently found dead in her residence in Las Esperanza, Honduras. "I have no doubt that she has been killed because of her struggle, and that soldiers and people from the dam are responsible, I am sure of that," her 84-year-old mother stated. "I hold the government responsible." Nevertheless, citizens are not the only ones in danger, tourists are too. They are seen as bait to survive. Unfortunately, only 2% of the crimes are solved. To sum up, like many other countries, Honduras is facing major issues with the government, poverty, and insecurity. Due to the lack of devotion for its citizens, corruption in the government continues with feet of lead since it is the form of wealth and power for personal objectives regardless of the town. Leadership corruption has created inflation, and a system of fear of great insecurity and inequality. An inequality that is transparent throughout the least fortunate civilians who live under traumatizing circumstances. As for my trip, being exposed to something like this has left me with a profound
