"No science is immune to the infections of politics and the corruption of power". Many countries in the entire world have been plagued with this reality, one of them being Honduras. Honduras has been truncated from its prosperity for many years by its own demagogue government. Honduran Government falsely proclaims to support its citizens to gain power and be financially assisted. Its warp structured democratic and liberal leadership has only led to the present deceptive administration, poverty, and insecurity.

Due to the lack of money, this generates an underworld where certain gangs take the power to create fear in the communities. Like the Mara Salvatrucha as many others that benefit from the weakness of the government to create anarchy. Anarchy has been the main factor in many cases of death discussed in the news. Like the death of an activist called Berta Carceres, written in the New York Times. Berta was a longtime campaigner against illegal logging operations (hydroelectric project), who was threatened multiple times. Sadly, she was recently found dead in her residence in Las Esperanza, Honduras. "I have no doubt that she has been killed because of her struggle, and that soldiers and people from the dam are responsible, I am sure of that," her 84-year-old mother stated. "I hold the government responsible." Nevertheless, citizens are not the only ones in danger, tourists are too. They are seen as bait to survive. Unfortunately, only 2% of the crimes are solved. To sum up, like many other countries, Honduras is facing major issues with the government, poverty, and insecurity. Due to the lack of devotion for its citizens, corruption in the government continues with feet of lead since it is the form of wealth and power for personal objectives regardless of the town. Leadership corruption has created inflation, and a system of fear of great insecurity and inequality. Before reading this, I, like I am sure so many others, had no idea of the magnitude of injustices that can occur during these conflicts. Also, this was not very long ago, nor far away, and it speaks volumes of the differences in government ideology and politics. El Salvador is an extreme case of how a government will treat its citizens. Massacre at El Mozote truly was an eye-opener and I doubt I will soon forget it.
Honduras was a part of the “Guatemala Kingdom” of provinces and was mainly settled by the Spanish for silver mining purposes. The northern part however was more resistant to Spanish conquest and was allied by Europeans and Jamaica. Honduras became independent from Spain in 1821 before becoming a member of the United Provinces of Central America. Comayagua was the capital at the time until 1880, it was then transferred to the city of Tegucigalpa. The social power in the book revolves around the government restricted many people ability to make a steady living and there is no way to move up in social classes.
Serpico (1973) is a movie that reveals the true story of Frank Serpico who was the only honest cop in the New York police sector at his time. The film shows the realistic view of the corruption that was evidenced in the New York police and highlights the character of Frank as being honest and courageous. Although he started as an inexperienced cop, he later worked as an undercover officer and was determined to bust all the criminal activities especially the drug dealers and pushers. Unlike the other cops, Serpico refused to take any bribes from the wrongdoers. More so, he felt that the other officers were doing wrong by accepting bribes and wanted to expose the situation. The other officers were so corrupt that they collected more money through bribes than the salary they earned, a situation that did not please Serpico. His strong stand concerning corruption made his friends turn against him, placing his life in danger. The anti-corruption efforts of Serpico jeopardized his life at the hands of his colleagues. This essay will study the Central Intelligence Agency’s intervention in Guatemala, and how they assisted Colonel Carlos Castillo Armas in the coup d’état against Jacobo Arbenz. It will describe the reasons of the intervention, the United States’ interest in Guatemala, and how it affected Guatemalans. Such events help explain much about the role that the United States has in their own migration. The paper argues that the United States’ political interest in Guatemala played a fundamental role in the migration of Guatemalans to its borders. As a result of this intervention, Guatemala suffered one of its worse political periods in their history. Guatemala experienced a period of political instability that led the country into social chaos, where many Guatemalans opted to migrate to the United States.
Some in the military opposed this and eventually a coup occurred deposing the president who started the whole thing. This then led to a crisis where ultimately the country 's military had to intervene and cause severe damage to the integrity of their political system as a whole. It seems as though this real incident is supposed to show us how easy it could be to have our own country 's fate suffer from the same problem of divided government. In a country full of conflict, uneven distribution of wealth, and a corrupt system of government, there comes a time when the people have had enough. The people of El Salvador had been dealing with living conditions far less than adequate. Some would say the working conditions of these people is closer to slavery than it is to a job. The labor force of El Salvador rotates around the giant coffee industry that is controlled by the lucky few dozen families with all of the money. These families control a major part of the economy of El Salvador. The people moved to expand the distribution of wealth out of the elite causing a civil war. The route to freedom for the people of El Salvador was a route of constant failure and violence. I believe that the path to democracy needs to start with modernization of the country before making the shift to a democratic society because it is necessary to have a country that is relatively stable, a society that is progressive with education, infrastructure, and an economy that will promote the benefits of an economy. There are countries that are not as lucky as America, where people have their rights taken away from them, like in Equatorial Guinea. Equatorial Guinea has a very corrupt government. It has been said that the voting has been rigged so that the president will win the election as many times as he wants. Most of the power is in the executive branch, so the president has most of the power of the country and no one can say anything about what he wants to happen. He president will harass the opposing parties so that he will win (Williams). In the article Equatorial Guinea HRW (Human Rights Watch) says, “Corruption, poverty, and repression continue to plague Equatorial Guinea under President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who has been in power since 1979”. The “...per capita gross domestic product...” for Equatorial Guinea is $30,000, but yet most of the people live in poverty. The “...Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE)...” rule the political system, you could say that it is a monopoly. The president of Equatorial Guinea will have a say in court cases. The court cases that are sensitive get brought to him and he gets asked what he wants to do (Equatorial...). The existence of bribery and unethical behavior is rampant in the world market and may not change overnight. The question of bribery has been distilled in business literature as a question of ethics. In this situation at the airport with the customs officer, it is important to distinguish between business ethics and personal ethics. In a business ethics situation, the Foreign Corruption Practices Act would prohibit offering any bribe to the custom office – for example to free a shipment of goods that was lost in red tape (Pitman & Sanford, 2006). Most companies also have policies against bribery as well. In this situation, however the main issue at hand is that of personal ethics. When in a situation where your company is unknown and there is no business being conducted, normal business ethics and laws (including FCPA) do not apply only personal ethical standards.
