Poverty
Imagine living on under two dollars. Two dollars a day can get you one cheeseburger and a side of fries at McDonald’s. Two dollars can get you one sandwich at Subway. 2 dollars CANNOT provide the essential nutrients and food a person needs in one day.
Many people don’t know the right meaning of poverty. Poverty is different in every part of the world one goes to. Many people think that the meaning of poverty is just when someone is very poor. It’s true, but it goes into a deeper meaning than just poor. Poverty is when a person cannot provide for themselves or their family.
Absolute poverty is an actual definition of poverty used all over the world. Absolute poverty is when a person can only live on fewer than 2 dollars a day. This means that every day people living in absolute poverty must spend on average only under 2 dollars a day in everything they do. This means food, water and electricity.
Poverty is the cause of 21,000 deaths per day. That is 7,665,000 people a year, many of them being children who do not have the possibility of even acquiring jobs to provide for themselves. Every 4 seconds, a child dies from hunger. That is extremely sad to think about considering that also every 4 seconds, a public school student gets suspended.
Poverty in Africa
There is more poverty in Africa than anywhere else. This is where most people think that poverty happens. Africa is also the stereotypical poverty situation. About 40% of Africa is poverty stricken. This is the worst case of poverty that has been seen in the whole world.

...o have money. These homeless people are usually not government dependent and live using money they get from begging. They live in absolute poverty.
Another type of poverty in America is living on welfare. Welfare collectors get money from the US Government to spend on food and other things necessary for living. These people usually have homes but cannot get jobs, or are unwilling to get jobs because they have many children. This is another type of poverty that is very looked down upon.

Poverty is the lack of money to the point that the individual cannot afford their basic needs. There are two types of poverty, absolute and relative. Absolute poverty is the lack of basic needs for a long period of time that puts your life in danger, which opposes with relative poverty, that covers the vital and biological needs like food, clean water, and basic housing (poverties.org, 2011) .
Merriam Webster defines poverty as the state of lacking a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions. The United States Census Bureau identifies poverty as a lack of goods and services commonly taken for granted by members of mainstream society. Professor Gene Nichol, however, defines poverty from an emotional, yet som...
Poverty has been looked at from two different prospective. You can be in poverty based on either a lack of ambition, or certain circumstances that may have taken place in your life. Anna Quindlen author of Homeless and Lars Eighner author of On Dumpster Diving are both located on the circumstance side of the spectrum. To be on the circumstance side of the spectrum you may have encountered a tragic event in your lifetime, for example the loss of a job. To be placed on the lack of ambition side of the spectrum, you have all the tools to be successful; however, you may be procrastinating or you just don’t care enough. I believe that the people who are in poverty are there because of certain circumstances. Poverty affects many people on a daily basis and Anna Quindlen and lars Eighner bring to light some of poverties harsh
Poverty is general scarcity, dearth, or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money. It is a multifaceted concept, which includes social, economic, and political elements (Google definition). There are two types of poverty, absolute poverty and relative poverty. Absolute poverty is measured relative to a fixed standard of living that is consistent over time and between countries. Relative poverty on the other hand is measured relative to the living standards in some particular society and varies both over time and between societies as

It varies in definition from one person to another. (Mills, 2000) However, the kind of poverty I will be talking about is the situation that comes to one’s mind on hearing the word; lack of basic needs and living from hand to mouth. This was a situation that I was in some time back not out of choice though. I was unlucky just as many kids born in a poor family where my parents aren’t really earning much and in that event one of the parents or both dies.
Imagine yourself living on $14,000 each year under the poverty line. One might have trouble paying for child care, medical assistance, or even feeding their own children. One might struggle in finding a stable job or have a difficult time paying for social security income. The following paper will discuss, how welfare and poverty have affected the United States, what type of people are affected in the process, and how one can help provide cash payments for needy families who are under the given poverty line.
Poverty is general scarcity or dearth, or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money. It is a multifaceted concept, which includes social, economic, and political elements. Poverty seems to be chronic or temporary, and most of the time it is closely related to inequality. As a dynamic concept, poverty is changing and adapting according to consumption patterns, social dynamics and technological change. Absolute poverty or destitution refers to the deprivation of basic human needs, which commonly includes food, water, sanitation, clothing, shelter and health care. Relative poverty is defined contextually as economic inequality in the location or society in which people live.
Poverty is often defined in absolute terms of low income – less than US$2 a day, for example. But in reality, the consequences of
When one hears poverty they think of having no money or a house and being on the streets like a homeless person. That is in fact true but, poverty is more than that it is more widespread across income levels. Not just those at the absolute bottom of income earned and wages. 12% of Americans are unable to meet their basic needs 20% being 18 years or younger (mit.edu). Poverty does not just affect people on the individual level it also can have effects on communities as a whole.
Poverty, also know as the “silent killer” (Causes of Poverty), exists in every corner of the world. The death rate of poor children is a staggering number; about 9 million die each year. Some view poverty as people not being able to afford an occupational meal or having to skip a meal to save money. This isn’t true poverty; poverty is where people live on $1.25 or less a day. According to Causes of Poverty, 1.4 billion people live like this. Even more shocking than the last statistic is that half of the world’s population lives on $2.50 per day.

Poverty is an issue which the world faces everyday. It is a constant struggle that cannot be ignored anymore. As you can see defeating poverty would take great efforts and contributions from all. We must better educate the youth and have education available for everyone all over the world. We also need to ensure that everyone has a job and that they are properly skilled for the job. People need to realize that poverty affects everyone, not only the poor and uneducated. Our world would be a much better place if everyone pitched in to help defeat a major problem around the world, poverty.
The main cause of poverty in South Africa is the lasting effects of apartheid. People didn’t get proper education and skills training during the apartheid era. As a result, most of them are unemployed because with the lack of proper education and skills, they can’t find jobs that will give them the means to a better life.
