They don’t recognize the positivity that comes with viewing the world in a different way than usual--as De Maistre discovers this idea before many others. De Maistre advises people about altering their daily routine by saying, “ I advise everyman who can to get himself pink and white bed linen. For these are colours to induce calm and pleasant reveries in the fragile sleeper ( De Maistre 61). De Maistre is informing people about the benefits of wearing odd colored sheets that men would usually not sleep on or even consider masculine. He purposely insists that men sleep on bright colored linen to get out of their boring, usual habit and try something out of the ordinary. This color concept connects to the idea of having a “traveling mindset” as both ideas preach about being unique and stepping out of your comfort zone, trying new things. In addition, sleeping on bed linen that are colored pink will create a sense of happiness and content in people’s lives, giving them motivation to pursue their dreams. When author Alain De Botton finally applies the concept of the “traveling mindset” to his life, he further exemplifies the idea that positivity increases with a “traveling mindset”, by acknowledging his surroundings. He describes his view of his surroundings by saying, “ a row of shops which I had known as one large, undifferentiated reddish block acquired and architectural identity---Georgian pillars around a flower shop, restaurant filled with diners rather than shapes. Someone was drawing a pie chart in an overhead projector (Botton 63). These descriptions all contribute to the positivity ideas and thinking of life when having a mindset
