World War I was the “War to End all Wars.” The war began with Austria-Hungary’s declaration of war on Serbia, which then led to the involvement of many European nations such as Germany, France, Great Britain, and Russia. The United States of America also became involved in the war when they discovered the Zimmerman Note, which was a putsch led by Germany, to overthrow the United States government. World War I was a distinctly unique war because it introduced guerrilla and trench warfare and even new technology like machine guns, tanks, and chemical weapons. Because of this, World War I became one of the most monumental wars in world history.

World War I ended on November 11, 1918, when Germany signed an armistice agreement with the Allied Nations. Germany surrendered because of the United States’ successful attempts at attrition of their military. This meant that America was able to end the long stalemate between Germany

One outcome of the war was the formation of the League of Nations by President Woodrow Wilson. Woodrow Wilson was a pacifist who established the organization, in hopes of creating a sense of unity among world nations. He wanted to provide a meeting that would resolve and prevent international disputes. Another positive outcome was the development of more advanced weapons. Through the war, the American army was able to upgrade the old tanks and use them to their advantage to perform blitzkriegs. The new technology then enabled the Allied Nations to defeat Germany’s powerful military weapons and end the war. Additionally, World War I caused some German ideologies such as militarism and extremism to be defeated because their supposed dominant military wasn’t able to keep them in their war.
