Some of these jobs allowed people to become bankers, clerks, lawyers, and even managers. These jobs provided the workers with financial stability. This example shows the economic effects of the Industrial Revolution were positive because with higher paying jobs, workers would not have a reason to leave, providing the companies they work for with the continuation of their service. The continuation of their service would provide them with a continuing profit that would allow those in charge of the factories to expand their companies by marketing. Another important positive economic effect of the Industrial Revolution can be found in document #2. This document was created by Charles Knight who was a writer for the working class people in England, 1831. The document explains that houses and other buildings were better constructed, clothes and fabrics became more common, and traveling could be done 10 times faster by train. Charles explains that most people could afford these products allowed people to connect more and live safer lives in those better constructed buildings. One example of a positive effect socially was a new step in the evolution of entertainment. Cities created recreation parks, amusement parks, theaters, cafes, and even dancehalls for people to come together, even bars were created, but women were excluded from them. Newspapers and novels contributed to popular culture because they allowed people to share stories and knowledge about things such as special events. Moving pictures, also known as curiosities, were short clips with no sound nor story. These were appealing to the working class because it was cheap entertainment never seen before. This example shows the social effects of the Industrial Revolution were positive because people’s lives became full of different activities to choose from to spend time with their families with and not just be at work all day. Another example of a positive effect socially was the invention of the telephone, followed by the invention of the lightbulb just 3 years later. Alexander graham Bell’s invention of the telephone in 1876 made it easier for people to communicate while at different locations without having to wait for the other person’s reply days, maybe even weeks later. 3 years later in 1879, The lightbulb was invented and introduced to the public by Thomas Edison.
