Hi Guys. Despite all the negative concerns that population growth has to offer, it might be very beneficial. Success has been found in population growth, most notably through China. From mid -twentieth century to now, China’s population has grown by nearly three quarters of a billion people. This large growth has resulted in the world’s largest labour force of over 780 million and therefore more production and economic growth. China’s economy has become the second largest in the world, and its economy is expected to double in the next fifteen years. Australia being a relatively new nation still has lots of potential to expand and become much more productive. The baby boom as well as increased immigration brought unemployment to 5.2% which at the time was a 28- year low, as over 150,000 jobs were created. Economic growth reached almost 5% and Australia’s economy was in a very good place. With unemployment rates as high as 6.3% now, perhaps it is the perfect time to increase population and create larger market sizes, more demand and therefore more jobs. In regards to the concerns over water, as Australia is the driest continent in the world, as the population increases there will be more innovation and a demand for new technology. Measures are already currently in place, such as desalination plants and recycled/reclaimed water plants. Australia also has the ideal conditions to facilitate clean renewable energy source—solar energy (due to the centre of Australia being exposed to sun for long hours) to avoid worries of pollution that can come with increasing
