The Outsiders PonyBoy, the main character of The Outsiders by S.E. HINTON. Ponyboy has been beaten tricked, and hurt. He is young around the age of 14 he has been through a lot more than any kid could imagine. His mom and dad were killed in a car accident, and left them to fend for themselves. Ponyboy has been living with his 2 brothers Darry and Sodapop. As well as that he is part of a gang which includes of Two-Bit, Johnny, Dally, and Steve. Ponyboy likes to read and watch movies. He’s also pretty good in school. Unfortunately for him he isn't like other greasers, he doesn't work cars, pick fights, or flucks out of school. In page (1-2) is says”... that I like to watch movies undisturbed.” Also in page (4) is says “... cause I’m supposed to be smart; I make good grades and have a high IQ.” Lastly it says “...nobody in the gang digs books and movies as much as I do.” This means that Ponyboy is a smart boy who enjoys reading and watching movies. Some differences he sees in in himself is that he isn't a dropout like his brother(Sodapop) or Johnny. For example it say on page (17) it says “How came you dropped … cause I’m dumb. The only thing I am passing any ways is auto mechanics and gym”. For Johnny it says “Johnny had failed a year in school and never made good grades”on page (75). This shows that some of the greaser,like Sodapop and Johnny, have failed in school and are dropouts, but ponyboy isn’t one of them. Some of the similarities that he sees is that all the gangs in the greaser part are like one big family, and that everyone has somewhat of a way belong to the community or in this case family. Another thing is that Ponyboy probably would never have This all the similarities differences that he sees in himself and others around
