Political correctness is a term almost everyone hears about in the news. There has been much talk about it especially in the previous presidential election, politics and even in our daily lives. We have heard from Ted Cruz that political correctness is killing people, how Starbucks decided to remove their Christmas cups, and how as a society, we have become to uptight and too politically correct. It is the equivalent of saying I don’t care about what others, because I don’t view marginalized groups of people as actual human beings. During Trump’s presidential campaign of this year, he attempts to justify why political correctness is not important. He states, “I think the big problem this country has is being politically correct. I've been challenged by so many people, and I don't frankly have time for total political correctness. And to be honest with you, this country doesn't have time either”(Donald Trump). In some ways, he shows that he does not respect marginalized groups of people and dismisses them by focusing on his view of America should be, jobs and increased wealth. For some people like Ted Cruz, they have gone to the extreme to say how political correctness is killing people. So is respecting people literally killing people? No, that would be ridiculous. In a figurative standpoint, he may have wanted to explain how people are becoming more afraid because they are not allowed to speak and freely discuss certain opinions. Censorship is wrong as everyone should be able to have freedom speech, but if it is offensive, they should be reminded and be aware of their language and how they can fix
He mention the reason why people would claim why it is not a good to mange racist speech. The argument is that the freedom of speech is a stimulus in our democratic setup. Also another claim is that people suffer hate speech but it is necessary for the convenience of the society as a whole. Creating a safe space is more important for some rather than others. In “The Hell You Say” by Kelefa Sanneh for The New Yorker, he provides an interesting look at the views of Americans who support censorship of speech and those who are completely against it. Another issue I gathered from his article was that people use their right to free speech in wrong ways and end up harassing people. Providing two sides of a controversial debate, his article makes us think of which side we are on. So, whether or not censorship should be enforced; and how the argument for free speech is not always for the right reason, Sanneh explores this with us.
In the midst of an argument with his wife about what he should do about the protestors Green says, “ I did not make the world...If not me, there would be a Greek, a Chinaman, maybe an Arab or a smart one of their own kind.” Implying that it’s not his fault things like that happen, if it was not him charging them more money then it would be someone else; the end would be inevitable. Towards the end of the quote he always says “...a smart one of their own kind.” Which is a very subtle and racist way of saying that he doesn’t think there are very many intelligent African Americans. Green also makes it sound like money isn’t of his highest priority, he does after all claim to not make much profit at all even with his increased prices. Oddly enough, for a brief moment during a conversation with his wife green asks her what the color of the picketers were, and she responds black. He then asks her what their kids’ last name were and she replied Green. He follows up by saying “There is your answer… Green is the only color I am interested in.” Another way of saying that all he really cares about is money, and not those who are being affected by his way of doing business. This is the same man who claims to be doing no wrong to his community, and who told his kids that he wasn’t a dishonest
Imagine a world full of chaos and fights. With no secrets and everything out in the open. In the twenty-first century, censorship is used everywhere. Even if it is unknown to the public. Censorship is always around, whether it be a certain book the public can read, or internet sites people can visit, to classified documents that could be harmful if gotten out to the open world. Since the dawn of time, censorship has been used. Even in Ray Bradbury’s book, Fahrenheit 415, censorship is used as a conflict dealing with the main character and what too much censorship is such as the government making books illegal. Accordingly, it means that contributing the industrial process with the black race helps the white race get profits from getting together; it is never harmful for them. Furthermore, he uses several tones to express his ideas effectively. Most of his tone is humble to make his white audience feel comfortable and pleasant. The general impressions that are used in the speech are greatly gentle and respectful. He doesn’t even mention so much of his race in order not to offend the white men. There is an alteration in his tone during the speech, which contains a bit of defensive expression in the middle of the speech. Nevertheless, he is generally respectful not to expose his real purpose of the black race. The speech does not seem to have any offense, even though he intimidates the white audiences in some points. He doesn’t want to reveal that he makes a threat or wants advanced steps of the black race. That is the reason he implies his opinions, non-superficially, by using humble tones, which is very wise to express the ideas that must be counted as unacceptable improvements for the blacks in the time
What is the true meaning of censorship? “Censorship is the suppression of speech or other public communication which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, politically incorrect or inconvenient as determined by a government, media outlet or other controlling body” (wikipedia.org). It is basically the control over how much unpolished information is let out into society, to protect it from the negative effects of the information stated in the rough version.
Censorship is a concept with several different meanings. To each individual censorship has its own meaning. Is it a violation of our rights or is it a protection for our well being? Censorship in the generic sense refers to the suppression of information, ideas, or opinions. It occurs in all forms of communication from technological media to print media. Each society, culture, or individual's belief is violated by the codes of censorship that our society instills.

Seven Works Cited Have you ever walked into a music store and seen those parental advisory stickers on most of todays' popular music? Or have you seen those TV ratings on the top left corner of your favorite shows? How about the ratings on your favorite video games? I'm sure you have, but do you really know what those so-called harmless stickers, and images do to the world of entertainment and your freedom of expression for that matter? A recent craze to promote "family values" in the U.S. has caused censorship panels to go entirely too far with the censorship of the entertainment industry including television, radio, the Internet, and even authors.
PC policies have also compromised the accuracy of educational content in textbooks. Material close to being offensive is removed or adjusted to satisfy the super-sensitive or to avoid any unforeseen complaints. For example, American Indians can't be depicted with long braids, in rural settings, or on reservations, even though many American Indians do have long braids and live in rural settings or on reservations. If the depictions of our historical figures are incorrect, then the new PC textbooks should ensure their historical accuracy and footnote each change appropriately. In addition, if the information is correct but is being altered to satisfy sensitive groups, it should be changed back, regardless of the offending potential. How far could this evolve? Will we continue to erase provocative and controversial details of our history? It “dumbs down” our textbooks, leaving them bland and far less interesting. This effort to cleanse our history is wrong and it is killing our education efforts/system today.

The founders of America said that they had to create a constitution because people were selfish it was their natural way of being. President Kennedy was trying to break that judgement by bringing in a new idea that everyone had to work together and that people didn’t have to be selfish.
Firstly, political correctness is founded upon the assumption that discrimination and prejudice exists within society. Of course the goal of being politically correct is so that it affects communication in a positive way. It’s to prevent arguments and people from getting offended. What we are not trying to achieve is some sort of polite utopia – it would be a dull and dreary place to live.
To what extent should censorship be allowed? Censorship itself should not be illegal, but it should not be done by the government either.
