The Music and Poetry Literature Appreciation There is a distinct relationship between music and poetry that makes them all too great. Both music and poetry branch out into a variety of expressions. This means that the different meanings both music and poetry portray create a different perception to the listener or reader. [insert quote here]. Both music and poetry work together to bring the audience memories, emotions, and motivation. They do so by incorporating precise sounds, not only from instruments for music, but by words for poetry. This makes music branch out into a subgenre of poetry because they are so much alike. The link between music and poetry, the different tones they elicit, and how they affect lives, are reasons to sit back and appreciate these pieces of literature. To illustrate, take a bit more time to sit down and actually absorb the lyrics of the song. Analyze every word in the poem and reveal the treasures inside. Every song and poem has a unique trait and not every one of them has the same meaning. There are different forms of expressions inside of every song and poem. These expressions are what make the pieces of every literature …show more content…
They both open the doors for people to come in and get lost in a multidimensional universe. The universe consisting of different settings and memories, as well as reality to launder away. Appreciation is the true value that should be placed upon literature. The connection between music and poetry, the different tones they induce, and how they affect lives, are the few of many reasons to express gratitude towards these sections of literature. It is these things that help humanity progress forward. Without any form of literature or art, the world would be filled with people of no imagination, motivation, and personality. It would be hard to be expressive when the feeling of expressing is being oppressed by the society that would
Poetry is its own solid object” (Bad Poem, Great Song). To some, the dilemma is cut and dry, songs just can’t be poetry.
In conclusion, even though both of these works resulted in death, they still represent two completely different genres with a common theme. Two different approaches came up with the same theme which was supported throughout the poem and the short story. Without this aspect of the story, there wouldn’t be a story. Because without these themes there is no conflict in the poem or short story, and without conflict, that leaves a very boring plot.
In today’s modern view, poetry has become more than just paragraphs that rhyme at the end of each sentence. If the reader has an open mind and the ability to read in between the lines, they discover more than they have bargained for. Some poems might have stories of suffering or abuse, while others contain happy times and great joy. Regardless of what the poems contains, all poems display an expression. That very moment when the writer begins his mental journey with that pen and paper is where all feelings are let out. As poetry is continues to be written, the reader begins to see patterns within each poem. On the other hand, poems have nothing at all in common with one another. A good example of this is in two poems by a famous writer by the name of Langston Hughes. A well-known writer that still gets credit today for pomes like “ Theme for English B” and “Let American be American Again.”
Poetry and music are both used to express feelings or provide insight into situations that the authors find significant. Minstrels have historically mixed these two arts in acts of around the world; they combined readings of poetry with instruments. Music and poetry both have a rhythm that serves as the foundation that form a spiritual connection. Music has long focused on creating a feeling throughout the audience. Jazz in particular focuses on improvisations, combining rhythms, and creating a “swing” or a feeling that creates a instinctive response. Although Jazz began as an American movement with just a single type, it has expanded into an international genre with many different subgenres. Blues became one of the leading types of Jazz among African Americans. Brooks and Hughes each use the long standing traditions of Blues and use it to express feelings that cannot be expressed in mere words. They argue that creating a connection through communication is less about what is being communicated and more about how it’s being communicated.
Poetry is more than just a correlation of words; poetry contains power. Poetry works by sculpting the English language in such a way that it produces sound, while endeavoring to recreate experiences. I really grasped this concept when we read Dulcem Et Decorum Est, by Wilfred Owen. Among other things, this poem contains haunting imagery, and a rhythm that produces the sound of being in the trenches. While reading this poem, Wilfred Owen’s words made me fearful and paranoid. The slightest sound could hold my attention. I also noticed how silent the room felt after we finished the poem. We were all struck and disturbed by the old phrase Dulcem Et Decorum Est.
Poetry is a distinct form of literature that is widely known for its ability to skillfully use words to paint an image in the minds of readers. Poetry often has great depth encouraging readers to look beyond the lines to reveal a hidden message. This style of writing is intended to convey an intense emotional response using repetition, rhythm, sound, and structure sometimes producing a music like quality. Lyrics similarly use repetition, rhythm, sound, and structure but are intended to be sung and heard through music. Song lyrics often lack a similar emotional depth, however, some lyricists have produced music that is able to capture the same components as poetry.
Song lyrics have set off a great generation of our leisure time than reading poetic devices, therefore song lyrics are better than poetic devices. Song lyrics have dropped numerous lines that attach to us now a days and make us listen to the line over and over unlike poetic devices. Song Lyrics have so much meaning by word choice and by relations.”Mr. Rager” by Kid Cudi, is about people fed up with society and plan on taking a journey. “Dreams” by Edgar Allen Poe, is about a man who dreams of a greater life. Mr. Rager, the song by Scott Cudi, has a better meaning than Dreaming, the poem by Edgar Allen Poe, by personification, allusion, and symbolism.
Music and literature have been known to either have a connection or some type of influence on each other’s artist. Many musical artist have based songs or pieces off their own favorite or famous literary scenes and or entire books, and many writers use music for inspiration for their work or find ways to incorporate music into their pieces. This relationship between literature and music has probably gone on since the beginning of storytelling and the relationship is still present and somewhat more relevant in today’s society, with so many connectivity to different literature and music being more accessible. There have been instances of a writer turned musicians or musicians turned writers, which has resulted in very interesting art and work being created. An example of this, is Ralph Ellison’s jazz influenced novel, Invisible Man. While also showing that how jazz music influenced Ellison by that the rise of jazz and Ellison’s love and understanding of it could help a jazz band and Invisible Man, be seen as almost identical if side by side.
In todays society poetry is all around us, we use it in music to deliver messages to the average radio listener. According to SelectUSA (The creative Media industry in the United States) The United States music industry in 2011 reached 15.2 billion dollars. With the information given a person can tell that a lot of time and money goes into music in today’s society. The music people listen to have many different elements that an average listener would not pick up. Many songs have poetic techniques that give great meaning to the song that makes the song unique. The song I Love the way you Lie by Eminem and Rihanna and the song Airplanes by B.o.B are similar in ways they use poetic devises and how the over all message of the two songs can relate to the average person that listen to the song.
Music has always had an important role in society. It has been used for enjoyment, but also to get feelings and emotions across. Some might say there is a song for everything, and it would be fairly difficult to disagree with this, as songwriters feel the same emotions as their listeners do, write songs about these emotions, produce them, and then let their listeners listen to the song and share the emotion expressed through the lyrics.
The writings of both poets can be described as both simple and complex at the same time, just like the world they’re writing about. While on a purely literal level you may be reading about loss, family, traveling, or nature, all of the poems have a deeper meaning about these topics that the poet leaves the reader to discover.
Since the earliest days of human civilization music has been a key tool for communication of stories which carried emotions through them. If we think back to our youngest years of life music has surrounded us whether it was from our parents singing us lullabies or from some sort of toy that played music we can say that musical melodies have helped shape or lives one way or another. Once we start growing up and figuring out who we are our musical preferences change; some people like classical and some like punk. We start to befriend people who like the same music as us and eventually we may attend a musical event. Our lives somewhat revolve around the music that we listen to.
Music, Art, and Literature may seem different, but when you think about their definitions and
The youth of today are more likely to have a favourite song rather than a favourite poem. Although the feelings and hidden meanings expressed in songs are often unacknowledged by the listener, they often have qualities that resemble those of a typical poem. These qualities include word choice, mood, hidden meanings and imagery. Using the songs “Luka” by Suzanne Vega, and “April Come She Will” by Simon and Garfunkle, I am going to prove that songs can be considered a form of modern day poetry.
In conclusion, I feel poets mainly write poems to express feelings, thoughts, and messages to the world. It’s an easy approach for them to use this writing technique as a way to articulate different aspects which could be improved in this world. I think what attracts people to poetry is writing which relates to each person in their everyday life no matter how it could be portrayed by. For some people poetry could be a relaxing thing or it could be something which cheers someone up, but people look to poetry to get a deeper thinking in life rather than a simpler thinking. This is clearly evident through authors, William Wordsworth and William Blake, and their poems “The World is too Much with Us” and “The Tyger.” Both poems related to one another one way or another, and they depicted different messages and themes which do relate to real life situations.
