As stated in our textbook, “An interest group is composed of people who share a common set of ideas or principles and who attempt to advance those ideas or principles by influencing public-policy makers” (Benson, Clinkscale, & Giardino, 2014). 1 Planned Parenthood has been a huge topic in the news. 2 According to Votesmart website, “Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. 3 (PPFA) is the nation’s leading provider and advocate of high-quality, affordable health care for women, men, and young people, as well as the nation’s largest provider of sex education. 4 With over 650 health centers across the country, Planned Parenthood organizations serve all patients with care and compassion, with respect and without judgment. Through health centers, programs in schools and communities, and online resources, Planned Parenthood is a trusted source of reliable health information that allows people to make informed health decisions” (Vote Smart, 2017). The Affordable Health Care Act has temporarily reduced funding for Planned Parenthood. I completely disagree with this decision. The reason for that being is because Planned Parenthood provides many different services to communities who don’t have proper resources for things like pregnancy test, contraception methods and STD testing. Abortion seemed the greatest concern and although I’m prolife I feel that there are other services that have been taken away from patients who truly needed …show more content…

5 According to GOA, “Gun Owners of America (GOA) is a non-profit lobbying organization formed in 1975 to preserve and defend the Second Amendment rights of gun owners. 6 GOA sees firearms ownership as a freedom issue” (Gun Owners of America, 2015). Texas now has an open carry law. I’m torn with this issue as well because I know some people have fought off intruders to their homes by owning a gun, they were able to protect their family and property. At the same time it scares me that people have easier access to guns. The crime with guns has been increasing
