Planned Parenthood Analysis

Planned Parenthood is an organization dedicated to fighting for women’s health and rights as well as equality. Margaret Sanger founded Planned Parenthood. Margret Sanger was an activist, writer, sex educator, and nurse. Margret Sanger experienced firsthand what women coping with unwanted pregnancy were going through (History and Success, 2015). Margret Sanger’s mother bore eighteen children and of those eighteen children, eleven survived. As a result of having so many children, her mother passed away at the age of forty. After this tragedy, Margret Sanger began to work as a nurse with immigrant families. During her time working with these immigrant families, Sanger witnessed the death of women dying from unwanted pregnancies and illegal abortion

(History and Success, 2015) The clinic provides counseling on sex education to women on ways to prevent unwanted pregnancies. That same year, she wrote and published a journal called the Birth Control Review. It was the first scientific journal ever published of its kind dedicated to educating women about contraception. In 1923, Sanger formed two organizations, the Birth Control Clinical Research Bureau which collects accurate data of women and the effectiveness of contraceptive use, and American Birth Control League that deals with women issues worldwide. The two organizations would eventually merge forming what is now Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). The incorporation of Planned Parenthood leads to the “Medical Association officially recognizing birth control as an integral part of medical practice and education” (History and Success, 2015). This leads to the development of several different types of birth control

It works with other organizations globally to improve the well-being of individuals and their families. The Planned Parenthood has been providing community-based health care for nearly 100 years. These services include advocating for changes in public policy, affordable reproductive health cares for all, sex education, and woman’s right to choose. Also, they challenge government interference in a woman’s right to choose. Planned Parenthood is also an advocate on the behalf of the poorest nations in the world. According to Planned Parenthood, “PPFA affiliates to partner with local organizations to advocate for policies that promote women’s health and improve their quality of life, including the provision of safe abortion (About Us, 2015). Each year, Planned Parenthood affiliate health centers provide health care including routine gynecological exams, contraceptive services, sexually transmitted infection treatment and testing, breast and cervical cancer screenings, abortion care, and HIV testing and education to three million women, men, and adolescents” (About Us, 2015). During a woman’s lifetime, one in five women in the United States would have made a visit to one of the Planned Parenthood health care
