When you use someone elses words, you have to properly cite them. Using quotations marks is a way to properly cite the authors work. You can also include a source page to show where you got all your information. It is very important to cite properly because when you do not, your paper is automatically counted as plagiarism. Even if you use just one sentence of another persons work that is considered plagiarism. Remember to always give credit when credit is due. Self Plagiarism is one type of plagiarism in which many people think is impossible. How could it be plagiarism if its your own ideas? Well, plagiarizing yourself is when you use previous work again for a different class. For example, you wrote a paper in high school that you did great on and your college professor is asking you to write about the same topic. If you use that paper from high school for your college course, you self plagiarized. The only way you could actually use a paper from another class is to get permission from the teacher you originally gave the work to. Overall, Plagiarism is something that no one should take part in. Not only is it wrong, but can lead to many consequences that can affect your life greatly. Being knowledgeable of the types of plagiarism and the consequences is a very effective way of staying away from it. My first memory of plagiarism is from grade school. I can remember having to do book reports. The teacher would always say, "write this report using your own words, do not just copy out of the book". So what did we do, we used a combination of both. In grade school we didn’t realize the seriousness of plagiarism. For the most part we didn’t even really understand what the word meant. It was something the teacher talked about when she assigned essays or book reports.

In addition, plagiarism suggests that the student in question is of bad character as they are willing to lie about their work.
