Piscine Partel is a younger kid at the time, he has a nickname that he goes by that has changed him, and this name is Pi. Pi has a passion for religious believes as he is Hindu but likes to practice many other religions. Pi realizes there is a meaning and that he can tie in his Search for identity, truth, and love.

Most of Pi’s search for identity came from how he got his name and how it shaped him. How he actually got his name was after a swimming pool. Piscine Molitor Partel is Pi’s full name that his parents gave him. When Pi was in middle school everyone was not benevolent to his name. Most of the students including teachers would laugh at it because when you said Piscine it sounded like “pissing”. On the first day of High school he wrote on the board his full name but for a nickname he put Pi next to it. This nickname soon stuck for the rest of his life. One day he went out to eat at an Indian restaurant in Canada. When Pi got his food he was eating with his hands because that is what his family did. As Pi was going around his dad’s zoo his dad tell him something. He teaches him how animals are not your friends, especially tigers. This applies for humans as well because they can weal and friendly on the outside but they can actually be very mean as a person. His father shows examples on why animals are not our friends by looking the animals that are locked in their cages. Each one of the animals having their own traits on how bad they can be. After he shows the bad examples he than shows the smaller animals that cannot hurt you like a gunny pig because they are much smaller and more friendly. Pi has learned that we, people can be similar to the bad animals that his dad had gave examples from. He also gets from it that he should be like the gunny pig because they are nice and never set a false image to
