The film,‘Pirates of the Caribbean: A Dead Man’s Chest’, was produced in 2006 in sequel to ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl’. The sequel picks up where ‘The Curse of the Black Pearl’ leaves off. In the first movie, the Black Pearl’s crewman are under a curse where anyone who took a piece of the treasure was condemned to immortality as a living skeleton, which was revealed any time the moonlight hit their skin. The only way to reverse the curse is to return all of the gold to where it came from, as well as the blood of all of the pirates who helped take it. The curse is reversed at the end of the movie after a brutal pirate fight, but is returned when Jack, Hector Barbossa’s pet monkey, takes a piece of gold from the treasure …show more content…

At the end of the movie, Captain Jack Sparrow is sailing away in the Black Pearl while looking at his magical compass and singing the song, “A Pirate’s life for me”. His compass is magic because it points to what whoever is holding it at the time wants the most. The second movie, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: A Dead Man’s Chest’, begins with Will Turner (son of Bootstrap Bill) and Elizabeth Swann’s (daughter of the governor of Port Royal, Jamaica) wedding. Lord Cutler Beckett, one of Captain Jack Sparrow’s sworn enemies and leader of the East India Trading company, impedes the wedding and presents warrants of arrest for the couple for helping Captain Jack Sparrow escape a hanging the year prior. Elizabeth is held prisoner while Will is sent to retrieve Captain Jack Sparrow’s magic compass in exchange for his and Elizabeth’s freedom by way of Letters of Marque. Governor Swann attempts to escape with Elizabeth but is captured by Beckett’s assistant. Becket allows Elizabeth to go find will and gives her the Letters of Marque. Captain Jack Sparrow finds a drawing of a special key on a barbaric island and is seized by a tribe that inhabits the land. He is now required to either join Jones’ crew or get sent to Davey Jones’ locker . Davey Jones’ locker is a hell where Jones’ punishes anyone who betrays him. It forces captives to take on their own private demons. The only way to enter the locker is to die at sea. Davey Jones sends people there via the Kraken (Davey Jones’ massive pet sea monster) which he instructs to rise from the depths of the ocean and drag ships and crews underwater to die .Captain Jack Sparrow is stricken with fear and leads the crew to land where they will be safe from the Kraken. He and his crew then go to talk to the voodoo sorceress, Tia Dalma. She tells Sparrow and the crew that the key belongs to the Dead Man’s Chest, where Davey Jones placed his own broken heart after his lover deceived him. Tia Dalma instructs the crew where to find the key and points them in direction to Davey Jones’ ship, The Flying Dutchman. She also gives Jack a big jar of dirt that is supposed to protect him from the Kraken while they travel overseas. The crew sets sail to find The Flying Dutchman.
