Piggy’s glasses is the second symbol in Lord of the Flies that represents intelligence; however, they are also very helpful for the boys’. Jack came up with an idea and said “ ‘his specs-use them as burning glasses!’ “ (Golding 40). Since
Piggy’s glasses are used to start the fire, the boys’ use them constantly throughout the novel. His glasses also represent intelligence, as Lord of the
Flies progresses the boys’ start to fight over them and then they get destroyed.
