Physical Therapy Experience

During my Sophomore year of High School, I played soccer for my school. During the first month of the soccer season I dislocated my kneecap while at a practice. This was the first time it happened and I wasn’t concerned about my knee. My knee swelled the next day and me and my family went to the hospital and the doctor determined that the best way to go was with physical therapy. After therapy during the summer I ready to get back into soccer condition during the winter. While conditioning with my team my kneecap dislocated once again, the only way to stop this from happening was to have knee surgery. The decision to have this surgery was tough for my entire family and the events that happened after I had the surgery were unforgettable. The surgery was a major surgery for the knee and I would be on crutches for 4 months and when the doctor said that I was already questioning if I made the right decision. The journey I experienced helped me learn more about my body, my thoughts, and how to keep my body in the best condition possible. The main way of learning and growing with my body was through my physical therapist Margaret. When I first began physical therapy I was very sad and disappointed about my surgery. With Margaret being my permanent therapist for the next 4 months she helped me realize that instead of seeing the surgery as a sad event, instead the surgery was a moment of growth in my body and a new beginning. During this period of physical therapy I saw how my body grew before and after the surgery and how the surgery will affect me after therapy. WIth this my way of thinking about situations relating towards my body and how certain things will affect me greatly changed. An example of this was my exercising habits specifically with my legs.
