Geoffrey Chaucer, went on a journey to Canterbury but on the way there he met a group of pilgrim and tells a story about them. As Geoffrey Chaucer introduced all the pilgrims it helps identify their physical characteristics. Geoffrey Chaucer, nicely portrayed the details of these characters lives during England medieval time period. In the Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer uses physical descriptions to show different characters’ inner nature. The Summoner was known as unattractive appearance and that reflects his ugly soul. Wife of Bath, she is very confident and will speak out her opinion. She defends her opinion on getting married too often. She argues that women when their husbands died, they should not live single until death. It's not wrongful to get married often and she states that it doesn’t matter how many men you got married. To support her opinion on getting married often she used the Bible to prove her opinion. Wife of Bath expresses that women should able, to have power and she wants to able to have her own control. Thompson states “ Wife of Bath presented as a bold, actively woman, and had five husbands whose wandering on pilgrimages equaled by her wandering sexual relationship but not taking serious”( 41-63). She has bold features that can be sexually attractive in that period of time. Bold features symbolizes lust and sexual. From our perspective, she loves getting married and having a sex. We can conclude that she didn’t take her marriage seriously. It shows that she enjoyed the different experience of getting married to different guys because she will able to have distinctive feels than the first experience with her first
