I have admired the work of healthcare professionals and the extent that they go to help their patients get well. As a community health care worker I want to deliver superior patient care and improve the quality of life for all citizens especially in South Texas. Currently, I am a pharmacy technician and have been working in pharmacy for the past 6 years. I attended South Texas College where I received my Associates in Pharmacy and decided to further my career. After receiving my associates, I enrolled back into South Texas College were I also received my Bachelors’ in Medical Health and Service Management. I started working for Weslaco Pharmacy back in December of 2010. Among several Independent pharmacies in the Rio Grande Valley, Weslaco Pharmacy molded me to be the most outstanding pharmacy technician that I am today. I learned the true value of integrity, patient care, and to be a courageous leader. Being part of their team was outstanding and I am forever grateful to have worked with such an awesome staff. This local pharmacy dispensed about 1000+ prescriptions per day, worked closely with a night clinic and made sure that every patient received their medication. The amount of hard work and dedication is self-rewarding. As their technician, I was in charge of 6 other pharmacy technicians, ordering medications, typing, insurance registration, prior authorization, audits, maintaining inventory, compounding etc. I became a leader, a mentor and part of a family. Over the next couple of years, Weslaco Pharmacy took a huge impact when Medicaid/Medicare made some dramatic changes.
