You’ll want to take several steps to ensure you remain respectful and don’t harm your relationship as you take this important step.
Don’t overreact. You may be tempted to take your parent’s keys after one accident. Take your time, though, and remember to gather all the facts and exercise compassion before you take action.
Prepare your case. Gather all supporting data, including specific examples and behaviors, that proves your parent should no longer drive. Also, include information from a doctor, insurance company or other sources if you have it.
Talk to professionals. A geriatric case manager can offer transportation alternatives or tips on how to initiate the driving discussion with your parent. You may also ask your parent’s medical doctor and eye doctor for insight into his condition or to recommend compromises, such as limiting your parent’s driving to daytime only or not driving until after his medical condition improves. Be aware that you may need a power of attorney to discuss specific details with your parent’s
The warning signs of drowsy driving are a way to understand and prevent it. You should try stopping and walking around or drinking a cup of coffee as this can stop drowsiness for a short time. You should have a buddy to talk to and to be able to switch out with while driving. Also, be aware of how much quality sleep that you and your family receive. The best way to avoid driving sleepy is to get enough sleep and be vigilant while
The combination of driving an automobile after drinking a significant amount of alcohol has been recognized as a serious problem since the motor car was invented in the 1880s. By 1910, the law in the United States had already codified drunk driving as a misdemeanor offence. Prohibitionists used the danger created by mixing alcohol and driving as a key point in their argument in favor of the eighteenth amendment, as a result of which the sale, manufacture and transportation of alcohol was banned between 1920 and 1933. Apparently lessons were not learned and many decades later drunk driving has been called one of the most serious problems confronting America today” (Kinkade). This should not be a problem for any country as individuals should be able to control their drinking behavior.
Driving is something everyone does. It is something that teenagers look forward to. Something that parents dread coming because it shows that they are growing up. It is a mile marker that everyone reaches at some point in time. But, when it comes down to it, driving is one of the most serious things people do everyday, one mistake and everything could be over. The increase in technology has led to an increase in distracted driving, especially in teens or adolescence.
PURPOSE: To persuade my audience NOT to drink and drive Every person is accountable for his or her own “right to drink”. Failure to treat this or any “right” responsibly has consequences. The person’s “right” can and should be taken away when the failure to act responsibly endangers others.
Statistics show 16- to 17-year-old driver death rates increase with each additional passenger, which is due to distracted driving. Taking your eyes off the road for 2 (two) seconds, at 60 mph, means you have driven blindly for half the length of a football field. The risk of fatality is 3.6 times higher, when they are driving with passengers than when alone. For many years, the correlation between driving behavior and age has interested highway safety researchers and administrators. It is general knowledge that the greatest risk of motor vehicle crash...
Drinking and driving is a big issue throughout the world causing many accidents. Intoxicated drivers go behind the wheel all the time causing harm to not just themselves but to innocent people on the roads. The question is to stay sober or to find a designated driver. People need to understand how important it is to not drink and drive. There are many things that could occur due to drinking and driving. Individuals can cause accidents and many face legal repercussions. These legal repercussions can even affect your life later on, if not right away.
Teens need to be taught that driving is a task that is complex and demanding. Parents know how much experience a young driver has, and they know exactly how inconvenient it is when they have to drive with their teen everywhere while they have their permit. Teens tend to cause most traffic accidents in adults’ eyes. They are not experienced yet, and often fail to pay attention to others on the road. They often think of a car as being some type of toy, but they do not know how powerful it really is. The driver education programs must be strengthened in order to make sure that students really have safer habits, behind the wheel experience, and by having a better understanding of all the laws on the road.
It has been said the best defense is a good offense. Although this is oftentimes a phrase used in reference to sports, it can be applied to driving as well. Get your teen a safe car, with features such as blind spot monitoring. Research cars to learn which have scored the best in terms of safety scores, and choose one of the safer models for your teen to drive.
Driving under the influence is one of the most common and dangerous situations in which anyone can be or be placed. Drinking and driving is a serious offence that can cause someone to be physically harm or even killed. Not only are you putting yourself at risk but you are also risking the lives of passengers in the car as well as any other car and occupants sharing the road with you. Many people believe that increasing fines for drunk driving offenders will play a compelling role in cutting down the occurrences of driving under the influence. However, while harsher DUI laws will look effective on paper, they will not make a significant step in the fight against drunk driving. Although there is a law enforced for drinking and driving in the
Although it is a controversial topic, many individuals believe that the driving skills of senior citizens have declined and need to be addressed. According to The Telegraph, “more than a quarter (respondents) admitted to feeling unsafe when driven by someone over the age of 65” (The Telegraph). This topic dominates many family discussions, news stories, and headlines due to the risk that these driving skills have on others on the road. The Secretary of State Office in Michigan “receives 400 driver re-examination requests every month for drivers suspected to be unsafe, and the largest number, behind law enforcement, comes from family members” (USA Today). Although it is a hard discussion to introduce, families have a responsibility to address their concerns with their loved ones. Acknowledged as a popular and controversial topic, addressing the problem will ultimately prevent accidents and save
Alcohol is a very serious drug, yet it is not treated this way anymore. It is an intoxicating ingredient found in wine, beer, and liquor. Alcohol is produced by the production of yeast, sugars, and starches. Their is statistics monitoring the trends in prevalence of alcohol for 8th, 10th, and 12th grades. It stated that in a lifetime period 8th grades will have a 26.80% chance, 10th graders will have 49.30%, and 12th graders will have 66%. Each year, approximately 5,000 young people under the age of 21 die as a result of underage drinking; this includes about 1,900 deaths from motor vehicle crashes, 1,600 as a result of homicides, 300 from suicide, as well as hundreds from other injuries such as falls, burns, and drownings. Alcohol is a widely available drug. Some people may use alcohol from time to time, and drink small amounts. Other people may drink frequently, and drink large amounts at a time. People who drink alcohol very often for a long time, and have problems after drinking alcohol, may have what is called an alcohol use disorder. Alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence are the two main types of alcohol use disorders:
Many accidents are caused because teenagers are unaware of driving risks and hazardous situations. One piece of evidence that shows that teenagers need driving experience appears in the following quote, “Teens are more likely than older drivers to underestimate dangerous situations or not be able to recognize hazardous situations,” ("Teen Drivers: Get the Facts"). Teenagers will not have enough driving experience if the driving age is lifted. If teenagers are allowed to drive at sixteen then they will be prepared to drive later on. The longer one waits to drive, the longer it takes for them to become prepared for the risks and hazards of

When you compare our experience behind the wheel, it should be me shaking in my pants. Due to her laziness, I wind up being late to work or school each day.
