When the gaunt dog first met her rescuer, she crawled on her belly wanting affection but was too fearful to stand up. She didn’t have a name and was known only by the name tattooed in her ear. She was very sick with tapeworms, hookworms, infections, and had rotted teeth. She had been tested on, abandoned, and left to die. Considering the negative consequences of using animals to test products, the US government should enforce a ban on animal testing. It is inhumane and reaches the limits of humans being cruel, it has many other alternatives that could save thousands of lives, and is ineffective because of the different reactions. One reason animal testing should be banned is because of how inhumane it is. Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year. Nelly is one of the lucky animals who survived the pain. She had a horrifying start in life because she was used for many years as a test Although we share 98.4% of DNA with chimpanzees, why don’t humans test on ourselves if the numbers are a 1.6% DNA difference. Tests using rat and human cells in vitro showed that rat cells are 200 more resistant to the drugs effects. Another situation showed up when Aspirin was found to be dangerous to some animal species. While vitamin C can cure human Sepsis, it makes no difference to mice. These situations prove Professor Furlongs statement. Because animals and humans have a different anatomy, it would unethical to test on completely different subject if the results would be different. Animals experiments are based on 150 year old science and 50 year old laws, making animal testing faulty and ineffective in the big picture.
