Recently, there has been very discrete opinions on whether younger children should be allowed to participate in competitive sports. Many believe that said sports are a very decent way for children to be active, learn various non-academic skills such as hand-eye coordination and teamwork, and just to plainly have fun. Albeit the positive factors, many feel that competitive sports can be relatively harmful to a child’s physical and mental state. However, it stands more truly that participating in these sports are mainly positive to children. One common statement is that competitive sports can reinforce a child’s security and social skills. They learn how to withstand criticism from multiple viewpoints, and how to deal with certain pressures as well. Again, Livestrong has said that “Participating in sports teaches children and teenagers how to compete in the real world. As they grow older they'll face competition in school, in the workforce and other areas of life.” As adults may be also assigned to work together at their jobs, these sports teach you “how to build a collective team synergy and effectively communicate the best way to solve problems en route to a victory.” (MU, 2017) Sports help us develop a proper mindset of setting goals and constructing strategies, They also teach us the benefits of working harder.
