Visiting a country for vacation tend to have a strong correlation with buying unique merchandise that the country has to offer, such as bags, clothes, shoes, etc. However, we tend to be unaware of the origin for those items. The clothes and bags that we bought might have come from animals that are endangered, or it could have been coming from animals that are now extinct; and unknowingly, we take parts in the big business of wildlife trading. Wildlife trade had been occurring for many years. Each year, millions of plants and animals are traded to fulfill our consumption. Those can be for medicine, leather, food, pets and many other. Although most of the goods are traded legally and cause no harm to the wildlife populations, a portion of those products are coming from the illegal trade of various endangered or …show more content…

In China, for example, TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) uses more than 1500 species such as tiger, rhino and many others to synthesize the different kind of medicine (From Beijing). Several of the Chinese medicine has shown to be able to cure many of the disease as proven by many studies. Tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) which comes from bear bile, for example, have been used in Chinese medicine for more than 3000 years. Bear bile is used in particular because the TUDCA makes up to 50% of the bile acid pool in bear bile compare to only 2% in humans. TUDCA is known to be able to cure many diseases such as cholestatic liver disease, reducing ER stress, inhibiting oxygen-radical production, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and prevent death of brain cell (The Unexpected).
