Although large numbers of unemployed young people is a problem in many other countries, I think the situation is especially bad in the United States. The unemployment among the today’s youths of United States has risen “by 2.1 million to 20.3 million from April to July 2015” (USDL). Indeed, I think the numbers published by the U.S Department of Labor (USDL) are shocking and the fact that they are skyscraping makes it distressing. Especially, when we consider that between April and July large numbers of high school and college students search for summer jobs, and many graduates will start their job hunt, yet not all youths get accepted for a job. Frankly, I think because the U.S is a fast-paced society, money is a necessity and the youths are then forced to do anything that lands money onto their hands. However, some of the means of getting money are illegal, in turn the youths use drugs and alcohol as a way of suppressing their conscience and/or fear. Apparently, they will be using that hard earned money on fleeting materials that also have the potential of harming them, of impairing their thinking and decision making processes. Common sense has it that eventually the possibility of the youths getting arrested or becoming hooked up on the suppressants they use (drug and alcohol addicts) is very high. Consequently, the states’ and federal governments bear the costs of having many prison inmates, also of the need to establish more rehabilitation centers that should have better facilities. Mainly, Bullock tries to show that the increase in the number of unemployed youths calls for the need to career-guide the young adults into more secure professions. Hence, I believe, there is need to advise them so that they make better career-decisions before they fall into the jobless predicament. On the other hand, for those already jobless and experiencing depression symptoms because of the situation, career development is important for eradicating the loss of hope and joy. However, not all unemployed young people have access to career guidance because of being unaware of such services or not having the money for the service fees. Thus, the federal and state governments need to provide easily accessible institutions for the unemployed young adults. For example, job centers, one-stop career centers or providing free career counselors at free town-libraries. Unfortunately, it is not guaranteed that all the unemployed young adults will attend the career-guidance sessions since the government cannot force them to.
