Texting and walking If there could be a law that saves lives, it should be placed. Texting and walking has shown concern for citizens safety while crossing streets. The question of having a law to stop people from being on their phones while crossing a street has been a conversation topic. The questioning of having the need to place a law that saves lives should not even be an argument. Texting and walking has created a distraction for people to realize what is going on around them, which is very dangerous. It might not seem like texting and walking is that dangerous as people put it out to be, but when someone is texting and walking and may cross a street without looking for cars or walking on a busy street without knowing, can not only hurt you but hurt the drivers as well. Study shows that between 2000 and 2011 more than 11,000 injuries were caused of distracted walking. Something needs to be done about it, like making it illegal. …show more content…

Like saying do not run in the hallway. The first thought is not let’s go run in the hallway. Most people follow the law. As this may not be the United States biggest concern, but it should definetly be something to discuss. Distracted walking has led to a 9% increase in 2015 to 2016. It’s the highest the number it has been in a long time. A doctor named Dr. Mark Melrose showed concern and reported to ABC reporters that “The more people try to multitask and do so many things at once, the more likely we are to see people with injuries from trying to do so much at once.” These accidents could be avoided with a simple law placed. At least that’s what Honolulu, Stamford and even New york and Arkansas are doing, they have passed a law or are close to passing the law on distracted walking.
