Do you think that is is okay for starving children to come over to America to find a home? Many children in Mexico are so poor they can’t afford the common luxuries we have, or in some cases even the necessities. Mexico is a very poor nation and parents want the best for their children, and most of the time that is sending their children over to live a better life. The Statue of Liberty is a beacon of freedom, and opportunity. Do we still live by the ideas that this nation was founded on? We were built on immigration, we should welcome people escaping bad living conditions, and the Statue of Liberty is a beacon of hope.
America was built on immigrants, and the hope of a better life. When we set sail to America we were all immigrants. Americans left Europe because of religious oppression, and we seeked out a better life. That’s what the immigrants today are doing too. We promote that America will give you a better life, and that we are a land of opportunity. Even though we say these things we don’t like to share our freedom, and we say that “America is for Americans”.

We display Lady Liberty proudly, yet we turn away and deport people who try to gain access to the freedom she promises. We have writing such as Emma Lazarus’s poem “The New Colossus” that talks about how we welcome immigrants, and we will provide the solace they desire. With limitations, such as drug testing, criminal background check, and following the United States laws immigrants should be allowed to find a new life here and to gain access to our freedom.
