Historically in most cultures across the world, parents have always been seen as the ones who have the responsibility of disciplining their children and therefore they have the right to spank them when they feel it is appropriate for disciplinary purposes. Spanking is therefore an age old practice that has been used to ensure that children can grow up in an upright manner and in line with the societal expectations and norms. This therefore means that in terms of the positive effects that the practice has on both the children and society, spanking can be done away with and adoption of better methods of disciplining children adopted.

Governments of various countries should therefore develop laws and regulations meant to outlaw the practice and for those countries that already have established laws, then they should put up measures to ensure that they can be enforced. This will ensure that the harmful effects of spanking can be eliminated from the society. In terms of the rights of children, the act of spanking is considered to infringe on their rights to not been physically harmed in any way just like adults and therefore the abolition of the practice will go a long way in ensuring that this right is protected (Ateah, Secco &Woodgat,
