One of America’s biggest problems today is racism. With all that is happening presently with all the travel bans, police shootings, minority representation on television and the media, and internet attacks, it is clear racism is a large issue in America and the whole world. I truly believe that racism as a whole can be solved by reaching the youth through sports and teamwork. I believe a campaign should be put together teaching children to play sports with acceptance and tolerance of other people and this will translate to real life for all of these people. To reach these children, I believe the use of famous sports stars, such as yourself, would be instrumental in showing children the value and importance of the acceptance of other races of people. …show more content…

A common trend in soccer fans outside of the United States is throwing bananas at African American players. This is extremely racist yet it happens at games all around the world. When soccer player Dani Alves was taking a corner a fan of the opposite team threw a banana at him and yelled racial slurs at him. CNN highlights how Dani Alves handled the moment in an article written by Tom McGowan, “Barcelona's Dani Alves reverted to humor when dealing with racist abuse but it has proved no laughing matter for the Villarreal fan who threw a banana at him during Sunday's match after being handed a life ban by the La Liga club.” (CNN) Having to face discrimination every time you play the sport that you love should not be what many athletes, such as Dani Alves, has to go through.
