In recent years, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of people around the world who have taken part in nonviolent action. It is clear, however, that there is considerable debate about the precise meaning of nonviolence. For some, nonviolent action is an expedient technique for dealing with conflict or bringing about social change; for others, nonviolence is a moral imperative or even a way of life. I think people try nonviolence for a week, and when it 'doesn't work' they go back to violence, which hasn't worked for centuries. Nonviolence is the personal practice of being harmless to self and others under every condition. It comes from the ideology that hurting people, animals or the environment is unnecessary to achieve an outcome and refers to a general ideology of abstaining from violence based …show more content…

For example, my school “Segue institute for learning” has a very good disciplinary committee that resolves problems for students by counseling them instead making them take an eye for an eye. According Martin Luther King Jr “Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon, which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it ”. Also like Abraham Lincoln fought for democracy without hurting, harming anyone physically and verbally but won the argument with words of his mouth which is a good example of nonviolence. There have been numerous instances of people courageously and nonviolently refusing cooperation with injustice. Nonviolence is active. Although to some the word nonviolence implies acceptance of what happens, without active response or resistance. For example it took Abraham Lincoln a very long time to win the war against dictatorship without violence which means non violence takes time but eventually has a very good ending without harming or hurting
