Homelessness is a major issue so we should fund more programs for it. Both adults and children are affected by this problem. California has a major homeless problem that has increased 8 percent between 2012 to 2013 (Crary, David, and Lisa Leff, n.p). This negatively affected california, many of the people on the streets could have helped the society but instead were too busy struggling to survive. Also in california, “The Department of Housing and Urban Development recently found that for a single night in january 2013, there were 610,000 homeless people in one small city” (Crary, David, and Lisa Leff, n.p). This is just california imagine how many homeless people there are in the entire United States. This growing problem needs to be stopped and in order to do so we need to create more programs such as programs to help the homeless get jobs, educate them on how to live properly or pay for a house …show more content…

Many of the homeless are children and that is an extreme problem because they are our future. There are about 13,000 homeless children in New york. One child in every 30 are homeless. This is due to the nations high poverty rate, not enough affordable housing and domestic violence ( Crary, David, and Lisa Leff, n.p). The Mckinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act’s education for Homeless Children and youth program is a great example of a successful program and act that really helped homeless children. The program has to do with homeless children attending school. The Act states that homeless children can not be segregated from other children, Transportation has to be provided for them, Local education agencies must put the best interest of the child first before determining if they should be enrolled into their school ( Doak J. Melissa). We should fund more programs for the homeless so that children have the same education as other children and learn how to not be homeless as
