Should you rely on helicopters to save your life if you are putting your life on risk? The climbers know it's dangerous to go climb Mount Everest. We are risking rangers´ lives to go and help us, even though we know something could happen, and it costs a lot of money to go and climb it just to get hurt. These are the reasons I think we shouldn't rely on helicopters to save our lives if you put your own life on a risk. The first reason we shouldn’t rescue climbers on Mount Everest is the climbers know ahead of time that it is dangerous. Mount Everest is 29,029 feet tall and if you decide that you are going to go climb it you have to know that is is going to be dangerous. In ¨Why Everest¨ it talks about how you might get all the way up there but you also have to climb back down and by time you get half way down you could start to lose oxygen. You know ahead of time that you might get in bad weather but if you call a ranger to come and help you when you don't really need it they are taking time to go and help you when there might be someone else that really needs it who can't get help. Some People might want to go and climb Mount Everest but has no experience with climbing Mountains that high, so if they just go up and try to climb it and get into a bad position and call a ranger to go and save you sometimes that could lead up to both you and the ranger getting hurt. If you call a ranger they are going to try to help you but if you don’t really need it they could end up hurting them for someone you didn't even need
Chapter 7: In chapter 7 Krakauer talks about how Everest has changed from a professionals trek to anyone's trek. He explains that many inexperienced people have climbed Mount Everest with the help of sherpas and guides. Climbing Mount Everest is a horrific and thrilling experience that 290 people have died attempting to complete. In the novel “Into Thin Air” written by Jon Krakauer, Krakauer goes through his own journey of climbing Mount Everest and how commercialized the climbing of Everest had really become. In his journey he explains how climbers have paid as much as $65,000 to join a guided group that would lead them to the summit. The author bluntly states that some of the novices were not qualified to climb Mount Everest. With this amateurity it only made the journey twice as much difficult and dangerous. Unfortunately, a terrible blizzard struck Mount Everest within minutes of them reaching the top. Why should we risk the lives of innocent mountain rangers to save those who put themselves in a life or death situation? Many mountain rangers risk their lives every day to rescue, mountain climbers who chose to put their lives in danger. This is very serious because, there have been many deaths of both mountain rangers and climbers during these rescue missions. That’s why mountain climbers shouldn’t be able to demand rescue services. The main reasons for this are because, it would involve putting more than one live in danger, the mountain climbers are the ones who took the risk, and with so many people climbing mountains a helicopter could easily crash.

For every year, there will be six mountain climbers who will succumb to the harsh climb of Everest, and that’s about seventeen times the rate of death caused by skiing and snowboarding accidents together all around the world. Mountain climbing, skiing, and snowboarding are all adventurous and hard-to-participate sports. But why are there so many deaths created by mountain climbing? And in all of those deaths there are about fifteen guides, and mountain rangers, most of them died to help the injured climbers. However, there are more than four thousands successful climbs made by varieties of people from young to old. So should people have the right to rescue services when they put themselves at risk? To me, people absolutely do have the right to rescue services when they put themselves at risk because that is what rescue services are for, to help people when they need it. And it also depends on their current situation, which may affect their abilities to make a decision.

You need to give up the heavy things, you need to give up your wrappers, and you need to give yourselves. Sometimes we need to give up our lives to climb the mount Everest. Rescue services are called from everywhere, to save people’s lives. Now a debate of should people who put themselves at risk receive rescue services has risen. This has become a debate to do the many people dying trying to save people from getting hurt. People that put themselves at risk should not receive rescue services because, climbers are not experienced enough, others are at risk, and the climbers are taking more risk and by doing that they are hurting themselves.

The first reason why Mt. Everest should be closed down is due to the nature being mistreated by the sport and it not being properly protected. For such an amazing landmark it should be prohibited to climb for conservation of the mountain. In “Time for a break on Everest” the author gave the example of mountains being prohibited to climb in Australia when they wrote, “In Australia, for example, tourists are urged not to climb the thousand-foot-high sandstone formation known as Uluru, or Ayers Rock, since it is spiritually significant to the Aboriginal Agangu,”(Source 2). This shows how important it is to preserve the natural aspect of Mt. Everest and not let something as silly as mountaineering get in the way of people in the future not being able to visit this landmark.
Everest is an unbelievable mountain that has taken the lives of a number of the greatest climbers in history. It was my job to ensure that clients make it up that treacherous mountain safely. My name is Rob Hall. I was the main guide and cofounder of a climbing company called Adventure Consultants. My friend, Gary Ball, and I used to be professional climbers. Together we succeeded in climbing to the highest summit on each of the seven continents in seven months. This was our greatest achievement. After this, we decided to start our own company guiding clients up large mountains. In May 1992, we successfully led six clients to the summit of Everest. Unfortunately, Gary died of cerebral edema in October 1993 during an attempt on the world’s sixth-tallest mountain. He died in my arms and the next day I buried him in a crevasse. Despite the pain that his death had caused me, I continued guiding for our company and eventually led thirty-nine climbers to the summit of Everest.
In a newspaper article, by The Seattle Times, titled Ranger Killed During Rescue of Climbers on Mount Rainer, Nick Hall, a climbing ranger, “…fell 3,700 feet to his death…after helping rescue two climbers who had fallen into a crevasse, according to a park news release.” Even if rescue services do come to help, they could lose their lives due to other people’s poor choices. People need to learn the consequences of them climbing, inexperienced. People do get rescued, but besides the rescuer who lost their life, is affected, their friends and family are affected, too. It is not right for someone to die just because of another person.

Mount Everest, the world’s highest point at 29,035 feet, is a special trophy among high altitude mountaineers. Standing atop the world’s highest point a hypoxic climber clad in a fluorescent down suit is above everything else on the planet, for a moment that individual can reach farther into the sky than any other. Arms raised in a victorious salute, a climber feels like they have conquered something that few others ever have, and justifiably so. The summit is usually the final fruition of months, sometimes years of planning, weeks of travel and acclimatization, and days of endless plodding at a feeble, learning-to-walk pace.
