Gluten, a mixture of mostly proteins, found in wheat and related grains, is one of the most controversial ingredients in todays society. This trend has become incredibly popular. Millions of people world wide have pledged to eliminate gluten from their diet. Most every restaurant you will find today offers gluten free options or meal substitutes. Because gluten intake has been linked to symptoms such digestive issues, fatigue, and hormone imbalances, many people have completely cut gluten from their diet. A gluten-free diet offers a plethora of health benefits. Some of these benefits include improving cholesterol levels, increasing energy levels, and promoting digestive health. However, a little know fact is that eliminating gluten from your diet if you do not have a wheat allergy can actually be a detriment to your overall health. The effects of eating gluten free holds merit in both positive and negative side effects. What is gluten? Gluten is an umbrella term used to describe the proteins found in wheat.
