Driving is a major responsibility, just like having access to a phone. When these two mix, scary things can happen. For the safety of everyone on the road, many states have made cell pone use while driving illegal. I believe this was a very good decision on behalf of those areas, because using a cell phone shouldn't be a priority while behind the wheel and it is a very dangerous act. First of all, while on the road drivers already have a lot of multitasking to do, between their own actions, and those of other drivers. Drivers have to pay attention to their mirrors, their speedometer, their blind spots, and everything going on around them; whether it be a parent with kids in the backseat, or friends on the way to a sports game. …show more content…

What many people fail to realize is that whatever their phone is buzzing about can wait. The top priority of every driver should be to get to their destination safely. If this is not what's most important to drivers, then they shouldn't be on the road. More importantly, is that it is not only dangerous to one person, but to everyone on the road. Cell phones are a major distraction, and the split second a driver looks away can be all it takes to possibly hurt themselves or others. Accidents are very frequent and can happen to anyone, but many are caused by something as simple as texting. If it's truly that important for a driver to answer right away, then they should pull over and take care of it. An act that simple can save not only their life, but the lives of those in the car with them or the other drivers on the road. Personally, I get freaked out when someone I'm with even attempts to text and drive. I always offer to respond for them, for the benefit of both of us. Even seeing people on the road with their phones clearly in their hand makes me nervous, because you never know what they may do. On the other hand, total cell phone use whilie driving may be a bit overboard. Texting should definitely be outlawed, but
