America is in a dire state. Over 10,000 animals are euthanized daily due to lack of space and demand. How can we help that? Learning the proper ways to increase adoption rates can be valuable, but if done right can make a positive impact of society.
Raising awareness for shelter animals is very important. if people don't know about it how can any animal get adopted. Every year on average 6-8 million animals are put into shelter every year. Out of those animals only 90 of them are even adoptable. That doesn't take into account the ones that actually get adopted. those are just the possibility of getting adopted. According to the ASPCA there are 70 million animals currently living in the U.S. Out of these animals 30 million die from cruelty, neglect, or exploitation. There are many organizations who have been tasked with trying to reduce these numbers.

Mobile adoption centers are a great way to get shelter dogs more accessible to the general public. they increase shelter and animal visibility. This is a great way to promote adoption and to let the community know about the animal shelter and the positive efforts in that animal shelters have done. When you do this sort of community outreach the amount of possible donations and adoptions increase.
When people go to adopt animals the visual and sensory experience is everything. i have found that if your facility is in shoddy disappear and smells bad most people will be turned off by that. Keeping your facility clean and free of animal feces and debris is an important part of an animal shelter. When potential adoptees come in to find there new family member they are looking for a connection. Having easy access viewing and seating is very important to the adoption process. Solidifying the connection between the animal and the owner can take any potential visit to one where the animal is getting

When I was little my teachers would ask me “Cora, What do you want to be when you grow up”? In reality, I couldn’t make up my mind on what I wanted to be ‘when I grew up’. When I was around seven, I went from wanting to be a Veterinarian to being an Astronaut, then back to a Veterinarian again. Around age 10, I wanted to be a dentist, even though I hate mouths. Then I wanted to be a Veterinarian again. Junior Year of high school came and when we started to research colleges and careers I heard that Premed programs were so hard to get into, and I wasn’t fooling anyone with my grades. I did some research on Veterinarians and I discovered that the Veterinarians don’t really handle the animals like I thought they did. Then I learned about Veterinary Technicians, they do so much with the animals. I
Seeing maimed animals are not pleasant images. Those images sometimes appear across computer and television screens. The advocacy groups who place these images in the public’s view are trying to jolt people into the realization that abuse exists. For every ten seconds that goes by an animal is getting abused (“Animal… Statistics”). One statistic states that “71% of pet-owning women entering women’s shelters reported that their batterer had injured, maimed, killed or threatened family pets for revenge or to psychologically control victims; 32% reported their children had hurt or killed animals” (“Animal… Violence”). Animal cruelty comes in several forms, some of which people do not know. There is animal experimenting, animal abuse, and mistreatment of animals. and through revealing the results from research, one discovers the horrific effects of animal abuse.
Sad, droopy, homeless kids go through their whole lives waiting for someone to adopt and love them. “There are millions of infants and young children who are in need of nurturing homes. Many of these children are living in the streets or institutions where they will likely grow up with serious depression or possibly die” (Bartholet 1). A lot of these children could have a safe home to live in if only more people were willing to go through the lengthy and expensive adoption process. If America had a better adoption system, adults would be more willing to adopt these poor kids. Currently, America’s adoption system is extremely corrupt and needs to make some changes as to how the system works, or
Anyone, who visits an animal shelter, as I do, sees an extraordinary number of beautiful, affectionate, and desperate dogs and cats. The majority of animals in any particular shelter are dogs, usually adults, for whom there aren't enough adoptive homes waiting. A few may have come from responsible breeders, whose owners do not realize that the breeder will take them back, many are those who are lost, and/or from owners who simply got tired of them. Some are pet shop puppies from a puppy mill that did not meet the owner's expectations due to health, temperament, or other reasons. A large number usually turn out to be the result of deliberate and irresponsible home breeding. These people are known as "back-yard breeders." And that is not a compliment.
Have you ever wondered, how it feels to be in a place where is overcrowded, and you are next in line to be euthanize? This is the life of the shelter animal when no one adopts them for a certain period of time. According to American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or known as ASPCA, each year, approximately 2.7 million animals are euthanized, which are 1.2 million dogs and 1.4 million cats. I am sure; most of you have some point in your life, owned a dog or a cat. Whether you are an animal lover or not, you don’t want to see innocent animals losing their lives. I personally have adopted a dog from a local shelter. There is no doubt that pet adoption from a shelter is a satisfying decision that will save innocent
Many people believe that the only way to get a pet is to “buy” one without considering adopting, which is why I believe people should consider looking up better options and become more knowledgeable. There are so many reasons why someone shouldn’t buy a pet from a breeder, and so many benefits from adopting a pet from your local shelter/animal rescue.
The abuse that animals endure at human hands is heartbreaking, sickening, and infuriating. Animals are just as delicate as humans, so why not abuse us too? Animal lives should be just important as ours. No animals should be killed or abused for testing, entertaining, clothing, or hoarding. Every year, millions of animals are being killed and torture for testing.
A mother and her two children are brought to a shelter with no place to go. Thinking they would be safe they are then brought in with a promise they will be fine and they will have no problem finding a new home. The man who drops them off at this shelter leaves feeling like he did something really nice for a mother in need and her very young children, only to be identifying their bodies a few days later. Who is to blame in this situation? The man who dropped them off?
There is a pattern that keeps on happening of how pets end up in animal shelters. If pets keep on getting lost clearly there is a bigger issue
In every community in the U.S., there are animals sitting in shelters waiting for homes. Millions of domestic pets, every year, millions are put down at animal shelters across the country. Although a problem with aggressive pet behavior is the main reason animals are put into shelters, stray pets are the result of breeding by roaming, unaltered pets. The more pets that are spayed or neutered, the fewer pets that will be put down. Delaware Humane Association does not put down animals; however, hundreds of pets are turned away each year because there is simply not enough room at the shelter to fix all the unwanted animals ("Myths and Facts About Spaying and Neutering: The Humane Society of the United States, lines
We can make a difference and save lives. Third, visit your local shelter or rescue. Adopt a best friend and don’t buy a pedigree animal from a breeder. Tell people to adopt from shelters or rescues.
These pets can be qualified as special needs, because they are very fearful of people. A feral animal, depending on the age, needs a lot of work. If it is young, it won’t take as long to come around as an older animal, which may or may not ever be able to properly socialize. Shelter volunteers work for hours with these animals, making sure that they will be okay to adopt, and will live a healthy life, not being in fear of people. These volunteers are a vital part of any
Do you know how many animals die out on the streets each year because they are abandoned? Approximately 2.7 million animals are euthanized around the world each year. This shows how bad abandoning your pets can be. People should go to jail when they abandon their pets, because a lot of pets die each year from being abandoned, and abandoned pets usually suffer in the streets before being taken in. If they even get taken in.
