Several different approaches are used to communicate healthy life choices; some examples are lectures, training objectives, individual coaching, and patient counseling sessions (Trident, n.d.). The thought of sending an e-card to get someone 's attention about a health issue is new to me. Sure I’ve sent e-greating cards, but I would’ve never thought of the idea to use e-cards to raise awareness. After visiting the HealthFinders website and viewing several of the e-cards, I choose an e-card from the category of Healthy Celebration. I chose the e-card titled “Happy New Year”. What caught my eye with this card was the “Happy New Year” message. The bright colors caught my eye and the children playing in the snow was very appealing to me. …show more content…

But this card can be used at any point in a person 's life to motivate them into trying to improve their health. The message of this e-card is simple, one small step each day toward healthy living is a good start. I like that fact the card ask the recipient to join in on a challenge, sometime joining a challenge or working in a group can encourage a person to work a little harder at reaching their goals. In my personal experiences, when I’ve had someone to push me to run a little further or to choose the salad over the cheeseburger, I would be more likely to make better choices. The other thing that I like about this card is the option to personalize it with a personal message. This function could allow someone the opportunity to encourage someone even more and increase the importance behind the one step at a time message.
Would this be effective? Who would I send this e-card to? Since this e-card gives the sender the option of creating a personal message on this card, I would feel comfortable sending it to family, friends, and colleagues. I would use this to try and increase the health and fitness of people in my life. I think that this would be very effective and that it could be used to address any type of audience. In each of these settings it is the responsibility of the health educator to ensure that the information given to the consumer is appropriate for the audience. In the academic setting “health educators” work with school districts to develop lesson plans, evaluate programs, and write proposals for funding to ensure that age appropriate materials are presented to children (Trident, n.d.). In the community setting health educators work with organizations like the CDC and Healthy People 2020 to develop health promotion programs throughout the community. The educational programs can target individual needs or can be used in a group setting. Of the five settings, I think that the Healthcare setting is the most important. Not only does the health professional ensure that the patient receives accurate and appropriate information, they’re also responsible for ensuring that family and the support systems of their patients receive the same information. In the worksite setting, again we see the Health care educator developing plans and programs that meant the needs, improves the working environment and improves the health of the companies ' employees (Trident, n.d.).
