Four-day weeks are a blessing from Jesus, at least back when I went to my Christian private school. All jokes aside, I loved those four day weekends, as they saved the school money, allowed me to relax, and let me finish my homework. Three-day weekends cooled everything off and helped me to be ready and refreshed to go back to school. Now that I am back in public school, this nice comfort no longer exists. This is why I would love to have a four-day week again, to have everything better in general.
A four day weekend gives everyone a day off, including most of the staff, which means that the school doesn’t have to pay certain staff one day, which means the school saves money. Just the existence of an extra free day allows students to get more homework done and have more time. For example, if you have a project that takes at least three days to complete, and you were absent one day, this will give you extended time to finish your project. My next point coincides with my first one; that having an extra day without school “stretches” work time. This means that students will have more time to do a project or homework, which means that students won’t feel as pressured, which means that the quality of the homework is much higher. My next point also coincides with the previous point; that students won’t feel as pressured and worried as a two day weekend. If students have a project due the first day of the week, then they will feel worried and stressed to finish it. If Monday counted as a weekend, then this horrible stress would be semi-lifted. A counter-point would state that due to the “double-up” system, more homework would be assigned. This does not change the fact that a student would have more time to do the
Students now have the opportunity to work another day to save for their future. The four-day school week also provides much more time for these children to spend and enjoy time with friends, and family, as well as enjoying extracurricular activities. There is a lovely environment for the children at the school and an extra day for the instructors to gain knowledge and a better understanding of their curriculum. The schools will be saving a varying amount of money that could be used in case of an emergency with money of any kind. Whether it is an emergency funding program, or money to fund an extracurricular activity. The school systems are constantly changing. New ideas are being tossed back and forth between school boards all over the country. Now they’re tossing around the idea of having 4-day school weeks, rather than a normal 5 day school week. Some think it is a terrific idea, saves funding in the educational department. Others think that parents will have issues with it, having to deal with extra childcare cost, also how will the younger children deal with the longer school days. This issue will effect, not only parents, but teachers, school bus drivers, and students etc.
For hundreds of years Thanksgiving has been a holiday filled with traditions celebrating family and togetherness. The day after thanksgiving known as “Black Friday” is a day for shopping and taking advantage of greatly reduced prices. The recent decision by retailers to move Black Friday to Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, has caused quite a stir among many families. People have become upset over the decision to turn a day of gratitude and family, into another day of greed and violence. Retailers should not open their stores on Thanksgiving Day because doing so will cause many employees to miss out on spending a special day with their families, cause people to forget about the thanks and festivities that thanksgiving represents, and create more violence in stores and violence towards people.
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
Imagine students becoming stressed with the abundant amount of homework they have to accomplish, complaining about the lack of time and fun enjoyable tasks they have to leave out. Currently, District 211 has a five day school week but having a four day school week eradicates these problems, which could have a positive mental and physical effect. Currently, the four day school week is being used in more than 120 school districts across the country, in states including New Hampshire, Colorado, and New Mexico. Use of the four-day school week also extends to several provinces in Canada, France, and Britain. Considering the amount of districts that are executing a four day school week, it is most reasonable to assume that they have significant benefits towards both students and teachers.

If they fight behind a screen, on the front line, or from a controller as long as they’re protecting this country, the people in it, and the people fighting for it they are honorable. Some think that because one does their fighting from a remote control drone means that they have no understanding of war, and in some ways that is true, but they are still taking someone’s life when they choose to press that button just like the solders on the front line takes someone’s life when they pull the trigger. School provides a lot of work. There are eight total classes in a semester, and sometimes it can be hard to keep up with everything that school asks of its students. Because of all the work, students tend to ignore the requirements school has. (For example, students will ignore due dates or study suggestions.) However, taking Fridays off (and replacing the days with extra weeks of school) will provide success for the students.
Imagine dedicating your life to a university not only on the academic level, but also the athletic level. With a full scholarship your time is dedicated to getting to class on time, finishing assignments, and making it to mandatory practices while also maintaining a strict workout schedule. With your day pretty much full of responsibilities, you do not have the time for a job to pay for anything that you may need outside of tuition, books, and housing. The other reason why we shouldn’t have a four school week is because students will have more time to get into trouble more.Half of high school and middle school students will get into drugs and crimes because they are unsupervised for a long time.If students get into crime and drugs at a young age they probably wouldn’t be able to get a job.Some of the students wouldn’t know it’s bad for them.The reason why is because some of the students don’t know it’s bad is because their parents or teachers haven’t told them about why it is bad.
One of the primary motivations for adopting the four-day week is financial savings for the school district. Anticipated savings are in transportation, food and food service workers, hourly workers and utilities. Savings on school buses and long-term building wear and tear have also been reported. After analyzing Colorado schools operating on four-day school weeks, (Dam) reports that transportation costs can be reduced by 20%. He goes on to say that in order to realize that level of savings, schools must severely limit transportation for activities or programs not conducted on regular school days. The capital, insurance, maintenance, and administrative costs remain relatively constant. Fuel, oil, salaries, and supervisory costs can be reduced. Transportation employees will also have a reduction in net pay (Dam, 2006). In food service, (Dam) finds that if districts are funding their food service from the general fund, 20% of that subsidy may be saved since the program runs only four days. However, he does go on to say that certain fixed costs within this category will remain the same. Utility savings, he observes, may be comparable to those of a three-day weekend if the buildings are closed and actually placed on weekend cycle. However, he notes that most school buildings are left open for extra activities and the use of staff (Dam, 2006). (Hewitt and Denny) indicate savings achieved with a four-day school week vary greatly from district to district, depending on the constancy they adhere to cost saving measures. It may be a gradual transition from helping with the housework and shopping to them needing you more and more until you find yourself providing 24-hour care.
There are many opinions and studies about reforming school days. Some people are concerned that longer school days would bring more difficulties. However, there are numerous studies and practical examples that prove that we improve students’ performance by lengthening school days. Finally, the economy and our society will benefit from expanding school days.
School should be four days a week with an extra hour added to each school day because it would save money for the school system, increase student motivation, stimulate the economy, and promote student achievement. There has been a decrease in education due to the small amount of resources, causing classrooms to be bigger and children not being able to extend their knowledge. Even though the economy has been falling, each school district has been working hard to promote student education, which could mean trading a traditional school schedule for a four-day school week. What do people think about their life purpose? Most of us think about life that is studying hard in order to get a wonderful job, working hard, and getting married. They have dreamed of one day having an eternal vacation for themselves and not having to work anymore. The traditional people around the world consider that overworking is an essential condition for the early stage of their life. Especially in most of Asian countries, the average workweek is 48 hours. According to the fulltime employment, people work 35 to 40 hours per week to be defined as full-time. If more than that number, that should be considered overworking. Overworking is an important issue because that can lead to some serious consequences. Thus, we should consider work-life balance more seriously.
