Believing in myself once again
Throughout the years, I hardly believed in my capabilities in school and in achieving my ambitions. You see I am not one of those cool kids who blatantly don’t want to do anything, in fact, I was worse. When opportunities decides to knock on my doorstep, I simply decline hoping that luck doesn’t go my way. It is because I was afraid to change my status which I was already comfortable with my life. Now that I am more educated I’m seeing a different point of view, a different view of living, which is achieving great things in life and surpassing anything that may come my way. In my path towards a higher education I have passed obstacles such as injury, problems with self-esteem, and transportation.
During P.E.

In my 8th grade year I have been verbally bullied because of my certain appearance and background. This exactly how people distinguished me mushroom style haircut, my skin color is yellow with a tint of brown resemblances to stereotypical Asians, short looking guy, and a bit chubby. I am being mistreated and gradually stereotyped just because of my looks and facial structure that I have inherited from both of my parents, but mostly my father. Certainly, it only took time when I’m being called Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Godzilla, those name calling merely affected me, but the way they had said and expressed it as if they have hatred for the Asian immigrants. I had just about enough I conformed cut off my hair and I spiked it up, tanned so my skin would appear darker, and I started to practice my English speaking so people would not identify me with …show more content…
Now it takes approximately 41 minutes to an hour, if I’m lucky, to arrive to my high school from home. In an online article by Dana Gibreel, she states that:
“The poor public transportation prevents many public-university students from taking full advantage of their education. They have long waits before boarding their buses and miss many of their morning classes and, occasionally, exams.”
Throughout my school career, I always had perfect attendance, until moving houses I accumulated a total of 45 tardies which is equivalent to 15 absences. Not only was I tardy all the time, I was also unable to participate in afterschool activities because if I did then I will arrive in my house at
Many parents tend to question if they or their child is ready for early college. They fear their child isn’t mentally or emotionally focused to go off to college by themselves. What they don’t realize is students going to college early bring about better jobs, connections, opportunities, and a better experience.
I am Nursing major and with that degree to become a Nurse Practitioner who specializes in the Cardiovascular System to reduce the rate of heart diease in America. I am a hardworking individual and I take my academics very seriously. I understand that I am at school for a purpose and know my purpose is to further my education. I am just trying to make it. My parents always told me growing up “ In order to get something you never had that I will have to do things I have never done.” No one prepared me for college, because I am a first generation college student. In addition to being a first generation college student ; I am also a first generation high school graduate. I use my my parents trials and tribulations as my motivation, because I want
Community colleges in California should offer two years of free education to students that are responsible. First, by making community college free for two years, struggling low income families can get a two year education at their local community college. By going to a free college people can save money for two years and transfer out to a better college with the money that they have saved. More student will switch from expensive colleges, and come to a less expensive college and acquire their Associate's degree. Next, some of the students will realize that they are going to graduate from an expensive college, and they are going to leave with a diploma and a huge debt in loans. Some people just need an Associate's Degree to get the job that they want and people can get that in two years. For example to become a police officer, people need an Associate's degree, and be twenty one years of age. Last, the crime in the cities will be reduced if community colleges would offer free education. Most people that are in the streets doing bad things are the ones who dropped out of high school because college was going to be too
Weather I have to go to school for many more years. I very much have faith in myself. I was always taught to believe in myself. To believe that I actually have a meaning in this chaotic world. And as long as I believe that I have a purpose, I will always look forward and never back. I will keep my head up, and keep my eyes on the prize. Along the way, I may face some challenges, just like everyone else does. Things such as being stressed out on a daily basis. Which makes everything so much harder. But I have a very supportive family and tons of positive vibes around me. The one person that I can honestly say that keeps me going, is my grandfather. He has been so supportive of me ever since I was a mini me. And he’s still going till this day. He’s had my back since day one. You have no idea how proud I am to call him mine. He is the main reason why I will stay true to my belief. I would be upset in myself if i just gave up my dreams. But because of the potential that he sees in me. His inspiring words have struck me deep down and they got stuck. He says all the right things at the right times, and he doesn’t sugar coat things because in the real world, there’s no such thing as sugar coating. But my desideratum will help me accomplish so much in
For most Americans, the goal of attending college is drilled into our minds at a young age. It seems to be one of the ultimate dreams for parents to have their child grow up and attend the best university in the country. Once students near the end of their high school education, college is a major conversation topic. The pressure to choose the college of best fit can be daunting. Do I want a large university or a smaller technical school? Do they have my major? How about on-campus housing? How costly are the schools? Am I too close to home? Or too far? So many questions, many I did not always know the answers to when asked. According to The College Board, there are almost four thousand colleges to choose from around the world. So, how do you
Career is not everything. Some people are always busy to have a good career to earn more money and to honor but the purpose of education includes more than just preparation for a career because it helps people to achieve knowledge, to learn basic things and think critically.
School starting time has been a substantial topic recently. There are some negatives in starting school at 9:00, such as, staying even later at the end of the day. Some students may say that, school should start at 9:00,while others think that starting at 8:00 is just fine.Starting school at 9:00 would give us time to sleep a little more if we stayed up late. An additional reason why students miss school is because they stay up too late, which causes them to miss the bus and therefore they don’t have a way to get to school.
College education goes about the way to an effective future for people who are not kidding with it. Currently, a college education has turned in the base necessity in securing a job in different companies and although some people might think college is not worth the debt, in a long run it actually is.
As a student, and as a dual citizen of the U.S and canada, the thoughts of where to go for post secondary education are wide open and very prevalent as graduation grows closer. As any american citizen, or really anyone who has considered schooling there knows, it is not exactly the most realistic place to go for a post secondary education. The amount of student debt in the United States has become almost a joke because of just how impossible it is to manage and how unrealistic the idea of an average student leaving without crippling debt has become. As someone who is directly affected by the the high cost of schooling in the U.S and whose future is being impacted by the feeling of not being able to affordably live or get an education there, I will be looking into the history of paid education in the U.S, as well as the pros and cons.
Some parents can’t take them to school because they have work early in the morning. Furthermore, is that parents are not able to take you places. Your parents may go to work early in the morning and you may go walking to school. Also if you may get up late moreover, you might need a ride.
From the words of the famous educational thinker and rights activist Malcolm X, “education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today” (Search Quotes) . In our quick evolving flat world, jobs are given to those who have more education and the skills to work more efficiently and faster; we all have to adapt and educate ourselves to compete with the rest of the globalized world. What can our country do to adapt? The plan for free college tuition for two years in Washington State allows our county to evolve with the rest of flat world. By giving many people the tools to learn how to learn it creates an actual opportunity for low income graduates to have a college education, which
Should students take advantage of the public transportation more seriously than owning a car? The public transportation can solves to numerous problems; the bus transportation can be a universal antidote for bigger issues such as global warming. By taking the bus can save students’ time and money, rather than students who have a car have deal with traffic and expensive parking fee. Students who own a car might experience sitting in such a long traffic, where during the traffic cars may produce noxious gases relieving particle of air that can contribute the affect to human health. The public transportation is the best solution for an enormous population of students, so students’ needs to get on the transit a try. The transition system in the
Throughout my life, I’ve always had big dreams and goals set for my life just like everyone else. I would constantly daydream and picture myself fulfilling my dreams. But, when the time came to actually plan out how I was going to reach my goal, I couldn’t figure out which path would lead me to my desired future. Every option I would contemplate on doing and try would somehow fail and crumble before my very eyes. After several attempts, I began to question if I was even good enough or qualified enough to go to college. To me, it seemed like the people who had a chance to make it in life were the ones with resourceful parents or the students who were in I.B or in numerous A.P courses. The possibilities of a little Hispanic girl like myself,
Both tardiness and absenteeism can be influenced by a lack of support from the community, family support, transportation problems, poor health, etc. (Teasley, 2004). Other possible reasons that may influence students to be absent are those that come from the school environment. Lacking support from teachers, feeling unsafe because of bullying or other factors, difficulty with content, etc., are some examples. Ken Reid’s article “The causes, views and traits of school absenteeism and truancy” explains that secondary school student’s reasons for being absent are school-related (Reid, 2005). Because of this research, secondary school teachers are in the position to question, ask then fix the problems in the classroom that are causing a student or students to be frequently absent especially when students may feel like these things are out of their control causing them to feel like they are caught in a cycle where there is no way to salvage their
My journey as a student has always been focused on the path to college and success. Before I even set foot in kindergarten my mother, a college dropout, always told me that “honor roll wasn’t an option” and that I would be attending college in the future and achieving a degree. Most of the time I made these requirements. Most of the time I was awarded honor roll or had a newly edited list of colleges to attend, but sometimes life got in the way of my dreams of achieving success.
