“I heard Sarah f****** George at Anna’s party, LMFAO what a slut!” was what someone posted anonymously on the application “Yik Yak.” Was is true? Of course not, but what if it was? Why would me having sex with another individual make a slut? Whenever I would even sit next to a guy people would think I was trying to seduce him and eventually have sex with him. If I wore shorts that looked “too short” I would get stared down and get comments that I dress slutty. Do you want to experience the shaming? Easy! Bat your eyelashes, wear something tight, and talk in a flirty voice, that is, if you’re ready to be called a slut. Apparently, appearing to be a slut, makes a woman a slut. Maybe I shouldn’t wear a fitted dress and makeup when wanting to look nice for myself, out of fear of being called a “slut.” Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it? That’s because it is, in the United of States America and many other countries, there is a large population within society that feels the need to attack and destroy the morale of women. Especially, those who are confident about themselves and all the actions they take in life. Even if a woman is a virgin, she can be targeted and labeled a slut. Women who actually participate in sexual relations with multiple partners are ridiculed even more. They are seen as “trashy,”and easy, the complete opposite of what men are seen as when they perform the exact same actions. Slut shaming is something I am extremely against and I believe it should be taken seriously. Many people take it as a joke and use the word quite loosely to describe a woman.
