Every single great voyage or expedition began with a simple plan, preparation and execution. Why should someone’s hiking trip be any different? Hiking trips are meant for people to explore both the wilderness and even a little bit of themselves. In my experiences I have learned what makes a trip successful, and even life-changing. It is easy to idealize the perfect trip, but as any veteran hiker knows. Those who do not prepare carefully, remain smart with their decisions, and understand the wonderful opportunity they hold will only ruin what could be a lifetime experience.

Its best to write things down on a note and keep it on you, or even set phone alarms as reminders. Easy things to constantly remind yourself on the trip, whatever will maintain a safe and successful trip. Keeping hydrated, checking on friends and how they are doing, checking the time and your location, and of course anything else that is personally important to you. These are the measures to take that seem simple but greatly enhance the experience and what makes people safe. A naval academy Midshipman 3rd Class Jonathan Dennler, a member of the academy’s 20th Company, received the medal — the highest non¬combat decoration awarded for heroism by the Navy — for his heroic actions while leading a Boy Scout troop in July. While on a hiking and overnight camping trip, a heavy storm rolled in and caused a boy scout and adult volunteer to die. He remained smart in his decisions, and he canoed more than 1.5 miles at night in 60 mph winds to a ranger station to bring back help and medical supplies. Dennler took hiking tips such as realizing his situation and making the smart decision to identify his location, realize his situation with supplies and went to go find help. Quick and constant thoughts such as these will be what helps you when you least expect
Beginning with the creation of the world, hunting has been over thousands of years for a number of reasons. Nowadays, hunting is considered one of the most interesting outdoor activities that have many advantages. However, hunting is a very controversial topic, for some might consider it very harmful and dangerous for the environment. Although this point of view is adopted by a part of the society, one can counter it with a numerous reasons. Hunting provides several benefits for those who partake in it and for the environment as well.
It was our fifth day in the Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico, the halfway point of the trek. I as the Crew Leader was responsible for the other 11 members of the crew, including 4 adults. I was in charge, and amazingly the adults rarely tried to take over, although they would strongly advise me what to do in some situations. Phil, with the exception of me, the oldest scout and the Chaplain for the trip, was my second. Together we dealt with problems of making sure everyone carried the right amount of stuff in their pack to who had to cook and cleanup each day. The trip had gone well so far, no injuries, and the worst problem had been a faulty backpack. As I walked I thought about the upcoming campsite. Supposedly this one had running water from a solar powered pump—so had the last night’s site but the tank was too low to use for anything but cooking because the of how cloudy it had been of late. But today was bright and shinny, and hot, so I didn’t think there would be a problem.

When beginner hikers think about hiking for the first time, they may think of all the walking and climbing, what to eat, & a place to sit. But what is the ultimate goal of a hiker--what gives them the motivation to go the extra mile, or the extra day? The fulfillment of it all, the sleeping, cuts scrapes bruises, the will to keep going. The beauty, and the horror of it all, the will to keep going gives a sense of accomplishment above all other things. The goal of the hiker may very well be to expand the essence of their individualism--in a sense to be as free, and persistent as the trail itself.
Hunters often reveal that being in nature provides time to clear the mind. In the woods, there is no rush, no schedule, and no deadlines; nature moves at its own pace. This interaction provides a deep spiritual connection with the land, the wildlife, and our planet. Hunting has been around since the beginning of time and has been in many people 's lives for generations, these are some reasons why people all across America continue to hunt. Hunting has many benefits such as reducing deer related car accidents, controlling deer densities in heavily human populated areas, creates jobs, and feeding and supporting families. The ranch operators need to find alternatives to gain a source of income such as acquiring sponsors, donations, conducting guided tours or perhaps, providing educational programs. There are more humane methods of earning money than the killing of animals. Making use of the public's curiosity and interests is a resourceful tactic that can be very successful and beneficial to the economy.
Years ago, killing animals for food was part of the average man’s everyday life. Bang! To most people, this sums up hunting. Hunting has been a means of survival for millenniums. While no longer necessary, I hunt because this hobby gives me an adrenaline rush and I get pride from helping to support my family. This pride comes from knowing how hard I have to work. Deer hunting includes much more than the split second of firing a gun in the woods.
There were many things I learned about myself while walking the Appalachian Trail. In addition, there were many things I learned about my team as well. My role in my trail group, the Porcupines, was captain. As a captain we are responsible for our group and making big decisions while on the trail. At first I didn't think I was the right person to do this job, but my field commander Mr.Duffy told me that I wouldn't be captain if I wasn't qualified for the job. From there on I knew what my job was and that was to get my team to the Delaware Water Gap and have fun.

There are thousands of things I love, but vacation is on the number one list. Many times over the years I have taken vacation time; It was only a while back, when I realized how amaz-ing, and the great value it gives the sole and body. There have been times when I felt not wanting to leave my work, whether it’s financial problems or among other things. Other times I thought my work was at a decisive juncture and it wouldn 't get accomplished without me. All profession-als or employees know that the money does not just make itself unless they are there to make sure everything is going according to their policy. I know I am not alone in making excuses not to take a vacation. When I asked a couple of my co-workers, they also agreed on not even taking a week off for the entire year, some even included holidays.
I awoke to the sun piercing through the screen of my tent while stretching my arms out wide to nudge my friend Alicia to wake up. “Finally!” I said to Alicia, the countdown is over. As I unzip the screen door and we climb out of our tent, I’m embraced with the aroma of campfire burritos that Alicia’s mom Nancy was preparing for us on her gargantuan skillet. While we wait for our breakfast to be finished, me and Alicia, as we do every morning, head to the front convenient store for our morning french vanilla cappuccino. On our walk back to the campsite we always take a short stroll along the lake shore to admire the incandescent sun as it shines over the gleaming dark blue water.
